Stranger Things: C'est la Beau et alia
This is a continuation of my previous post, The Strange Thing About Beau + the Johnsons. Now, we'll look at how all of Aster's shorts are connected to Beau is Afraid. Spoiler alert, there's a lot of intricate links among each film, so there will be more to be posted after this...and I'm certain I'll be missing a lot, too. Naturally, this will spoil aspects of the short films (not much), so if you'd like to watch them first, check them out here.
All right, here we go...
--------------------------
One Story to Rule Them All

Now, let's kick this post in similar fashion as the one before...with a bang!

https://preview.redd.it/ikh3364oebzc1.png?width=1368&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e5057a75d6a8de182453589dd29b432d81a24d2
Here, in C'est la Vie, the main charactenarrator, Chester Crummings is hit by a vehicle while in the street, just as Beau and Sidney -- all three are male, too. While Sidney's story in the Johnsons links Beau to familial sexual abuse, Chester's primary issues appear to be with society at large, ranting about everything from change in a pocket to political corruption. His issues with the world are very similar to what the MW Corp is subtly shown to be behind Beau's reality since it essentially makes and sells everything. But perhaps there's a little more under this surface connection as was shown to be the case for BiA.
In the background, we see a conspicuous palm tree standing alone. Palm fronds pop up numerous times in BiA during the cruise hallucination, and they always share the frame with a pink object (linked to Beau's sexual abuse in Mona's pink bed by Elaine and Sidney in a bath, lying his head on a pink towel before his son bursts in).

[Pink object in scene] (1) Pink drink umbrella (2) Elaine's bathing suit (3) Elaine's bathing suit

(1) Elaine's bathing suit (2) Shirt of woman sitting beneath fronds

Also in these scenes is either Mona, the mystery predator stalking Beau, or a dead man in the pool (exiled twin from the nightmare perhaps?).
In honor of Beau's upcoming birthday, I'm sure we can all remember seeing this version of Chester Crummings in BiA:

https://preview.redd.it/kol9692n5czc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=b93b892b3a4734e519598aae2c464f3867d45269
Of course as Chester unleashes the torrent of fuck you's, he's stabbing the air with a knife exactly as good ol' Bday Stabman.

Jumping to the short film Basically, our lead, a girl named Shandy Pickles, narrates the film as Chester does, only her cynical musings are primarily self-centered. In the scene below, she relates how someone close to her ruined their relationship...a friend with a very recognizable name:

Using a self-caption program, so they're not gonna be perfect.
I made a post awhile back focused on the oral fixation I felt was in BiA, and here we happen to be told about a Mona "blowing" someone. It's in the past, like Beau's abuse, and Mona's motives were to bring her and the protagonist closer together but ended up doing the opposite, exactly as she is shown to do with Beau -- ending with Beau being a dead man in a pool.
Then, we have the Johnsons to support all these claims even more through visual links to both BiA and Basically seen here:

There looks to be a palm tree directly over the mother's head, too.
Immediately, the conspicuous black sunhat worn by the mother, Joan (same name as cult leader in Hereditary) is seen to match Shandy's almost identically. Only real difference between the two is the shear ribbon on Joan's...tied in a bow, of course. Much more subtle is the girl in the background, opposite the one Joan is speaking with, who is standing alone wearing the same hat and looking very similar to Shandy. She even wears a light colored top and black black leggings, matching her outfit's color scheme. Note there are also two other women wearing similar hats, different in color, but still matching matching each other; one wears the son Isiah's color purple, too.
Bringing the focus back to foreground, the girl with Joan wears a dress matching the polka-dot pattern of Shandy's pants - another obvious allusion from one work to the other. An interesting aspect between the two girls in the Johnsons standing in line is how they are opposites in how close they resemble Shandy, and that the borderline doppelganger is isolated -- separated from the action as Basically itself is -- while the other is so close to the story that the mother holds her with both hands.
In the beginning of BiA, there is a woman who links likewise with the aforementioned trio. She also sits at a "medium" distance inside the world -- not far removed, not up close and personal, either.

https://preview.redd.it/av9mfgg7gbzc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=329135760c4b88f0ae9684269f35bc92c5d858ca
As you can see, the woman holding the sign (speaking a line in the film, but silently - perfectly medium) shares a full polka dot dress like the one in green in the Johnsons. However, her's also matches the color tones of the girl in the background and Shandy. Plus, her hair is styled as Shandy's, but not as dark. In this vein, the two in the Johnsons share their hairstyle between each other, but not with the other two, while linking to Shandy's hair via the color.
Another thing about these scenes from all three works is that they each lead to subtle pieces of evidence supporting the theory of Beau's childhood abuse by Mona; Basically's has already been discussed. The one in BiA is the MW dental floss billboard Beau is just about to stand beneath (shown in the previous post) coupled with a man eating ice cream cones - obviously referencing the stalker on the cruise. For the Johnsons, we have the fountain in the background. The fountain is tiered in much the same way this one is:

https://preview.redd.it/qd9igu5mgbzc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=e7644315436e833c3aa76d955546e72ed579ec41
Both have three large tiers topped by a questionable fourth. Of course, the stalker in the background here calls up an association of sexual predication. But more importantly, Mona uses this foundation in a somewhat low-key form of abuse...

https://preview.redd.it/bh3krtjwybzc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=853dcdac3f20297c13a31b37c4399bdb6752fa2b

Recall that Beau has just been telling Mona why he can't/is not allowed to eat any of the desserts on the table. When she asks about the chocolate, Beau doesn't respond. Next, after asking about Beau's virginity, Mona quickly takes some of the chocolate and shoves it into his mouth without any warning or Beau's consent. What makes this worse, earlier when she asks about the the chocolate, she refers to it as "liquid shit," labeling it the grossest item of them all. Not to mention the fact Beau doesn't answer because he's staring at the dead flies in the fountain's pool.
The act itself basically imitates the blowjob and betrayal of friendship Shandy tells us her friend Mona committed, reinforcing the idea Beau's Mona mirrors Shandy's. And this moment between Elaine and Beau is like the sex they have distilled into a few seconds.
A final important detail sealing the mirroring of the triads are the pools seen in each. The one in Basically is straight back, obscured by the trees. Naturally, these pools all hearken to Beau's bath nightmare born by a perceived abuse obscured in his past.
---------------------------
Fin?
...Oh wait, no, I still have a few more details left.
Joan's dress for her son, Isaiah's wedding looked familiar to me when I saw it, and then I realized what I was thinking of --

https://preview.redd.it/df50p8xmzbzc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=7c93a4bac74c59752be78e8bb41c64996cb9c966
Here's a better look at the dress plus the fountain, and our lone wedding guest, Shandy's doppelgänger (we even can see that there is indeed a palm tree in the background). And here's what Joan's dress reminds me of: the upholstery on the couch where Beau has the latter half of his cruise hallucination.
https://preview.redd.it/xa0uj1wf0czc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=50e4bce008435605d76229637aa9412b6251fedc

https://preview.redd.it/mquobv351czc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=7c2feeeca6e5cf4de78aaf1a7b13a8838074efa1
Of course not exactly identical, but close enough I feel it warrants pointing out. Adding to this is the fact Beau has the cruise hallucination on this couch (the part with Mona and the fountain) and Joan wears this dress when she witnesses a horrible secret about her family.

https://preview.redd.it/31eynlia2czc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=03271b26da2b3ff5c72a3171c50751f06682ef09
This scene is the death of her family as she knows it. The flowers beside her are also reflected when Beau shows to the funeral of his family, too.

https://preview.redd.it/wr8t6iko2czc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=21c796a8b5c38fd2de5ef71349cf14022c1ecf32
------------------------
Continued...
A lot more to be discussed in the next post.
I'll end this one by linking another integral piece in the upcoming discussion, the short film Munchausen. In this clip, we see the son linking hands with his college girlfriend, played by the same actress who played Shandy Pickles in Basically. Her outfit very closely resembles the yellow, flower-patterned dress of the woman in the foreground in the city shot of BiA, the one looking for her son, Joseph.

https://preview.redd.it/g5dagdd83czc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=498978ab0f7bc49676b6706f243ed1b0b78ce8f9
Her hair is a lot more Mona-esque, as well.
Here's another shot of the mother in BiA. The girlfriend in Munchausen also grabs the hand of the boy, in exactly the opposite way, however.
https://preview.redd.it/npsuqlsf7czc1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=05cd902e837797f7431b71d9a9e50d444577d8ac
The mother in BiA is essentially Elaine's mother seen on the cruise, angry at her child and aggressively taking them away. We first see her angry with Elaine after her and Beau's kiss at the fountain -

- the pattern of her skirt looks a little familiar, too, don't you think?

2024.05.05 21:46 IndependentAd2364 Kat graham as robin

Robin is hands down one of my favorite characters, her aura is elegant, regal and calm while also being mysterious and threatening.
I took a lot of time to really think about which actress would be the best fit, in my opinion, the conclusion I came to, is Kat Graham, she has shown a lot of range in her decade+ long career,
as a fan of robin and Kat’s work, I noticed there are a lot of similarities between Kat’s previous work and the character Nico Robin,
for example Latin influence language for their magical powers are one of them Sacrificing them selves for their friends well being is another,
I believe Kat has the experience range and talent to give a realistic portrayal of Nico Robin.
also her light eyes, dark hair, and skin shade really resemble Robin’s likeness when she is first introduced to us in the original series
P.S. Also I think it’s really cool that Oda said Robin is Russian and while researching Kat to to formulate my opinion, I unexpectedly found that she comes from a Russian background as well.
“Kat was born in Geneva, Switzerland and raised in Los Angeles, California. Her father, Joseph, is of Liberian descent, and her mother, Natasha, is Jewish, her family coming from Poland and Russia.” - google

2024.05.04 04:33 Dm12374 Ideas for fun Hallmark Cameos

We know the good people at Hallmark like to drop in a favorite actor or actress for a cameo in their movies. I thought we'd have some fun with some ideas. My overarching thought might be cameos where the actoactress plays against type. A common trope which might be perfect for said cameo might be the "Speed dating" scene. I like the idea of Dylan Neal or Paul Campbell being completely befuddled by the female lead and is quite awkward and can't say anything which makes any sense. Another one for the "Speed dating" scene might be Rachel Boston playing a non-smiling, goth lady. Yeah, that would be funny. Maybe someone a bit younger. Yeah, Rhiannon Fish playing the non-smiling goth lady. That would be hilarious.
It could be a bit sexy even. Or a sly eye to a different movie or role? Is that Jesse Metcalfe over there sawing wood shirtless? That would be a popular cameo. Hmm. Is that Hunter King coming out of the pool and distracting Andrew Walker on the way to his first date with Kimberley Sustad? Is that Marilu Henner driving the rideshare? So what ideas do you all have for fun cameos?

2024.05.01 03:27 Alarming_Paper_8357 Episode 11.4 Recap - "Along Came A Spider"

Everyone in town is meeting at the saloon to listen to Lucas' radio "Easter Address." Rosemary suggests hypnotizing Lucas to see if he remembers who shot him, but Mei comments that hypnosis is unreliable. Lucas starts his address, announcing that Easter is a time for new beginnings (Elizabeth sneaks a quick look at Nathan, who glances back), the building of 1,000 new homes and apartments in Cape Fullerton, and that they are accepting bids to build a big resort in Hope Valley. Everyone claps enthusiastically. He finishes the address (must be the shortest address of any governor anywhere) announcing a new tradition: the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. More clapping.
As Elizabeth, Rosemary and Lee congratulate Lucas, Bill wanders over to Nathan and observes that Lucas and Elizabeth are being "very adult" about "things" (well, they are in the 30s, what do you expect?). Nathan's response, as he watches Elizabeth and Lucas talking, is a tight "I see that." Bill comments that things would be easier for Nathan if Lucas stayed in Capital City, but Nathan shrugs it off, saying, "It doesn't make any difference to me" -- while watching Elizabeth like a hawk. Elizabeth turns and smiles at him casually, and he puts a smile on his face, but then she turns away.
Afterwards, Nathan and Elizabeth are discussing the Easter Egg hunt -- apparently Lucas had some grandiose ideas, including having Edwin dress up as the Easter Bunny, but she had talked Lucas out of it. Nathan playfully chides her, "Oh, you're no fun!" to which Elizabeth protests that she is "lots of fun!" but that it's her job to remind Lucas to "keep things simple" (her job? Thought she was a teacher . . .) Nathan calls her out on it -- "So, he gave you an actual job?". to which Elizabeth responds, "Well, self-appointed . . . " Nathan thanks her for taking on the project, but observes she's going the wrong way to school. She's tells him that she's stopping by to pick up Little Jack from daycare so he can go dye Easter Eggs with the class -- Little Jack has expressed a wish to go to school, and reminds his mom that he will be starting school next year. Nathan offers to help with the hunt, and Elizabeth allows as how 'that would be nice . . . " but apparently can't think of anything else to say, except a weird, awkward laugh, and she hurries off.
Lucas is trying to round up a delegation to go talk to the mayor of Benson Hills about the land that was sold for the resort. He asks Bill to go, as acting mayor, but he refuses, but them remembers that Mike is the actual mayor. Mike refuses, because it appears that his overbearing sister, Maisie, is the mayor of Benson Hills and, as he readily admits to Lucas' teasing that he's afraid of her: "Yes! Yes, I am!" But in the end, Mike agrees to go with Lee riding shotgun.
At school, Elizabeth has to leave Jack for a moment to referee a squabble. Afterwards, Jack said he liked school, but it seemed like she was everyone's mom. Elizabeth reassures her that she may be everyone's teacher, but she is only his mother. Faith and Lily going them on their way back to daycare, and Faith tells Elizabeth she's never had so much fun.
Rosemary and Bill mull over evidence from the shooting, and notice the purported shooter's fingerprints only appear in one small spot of the gun. Their theory is that the shooter was framed --or is taking the fall for someone.
A woman (Juliette) pulls up in front of the saloon in a very expensive car and steps out. Bill is there, and scolds her tat she can't park there. She replies that she's a friend of the owner, so surely it will be ok. Lee corrects her that Lee is now the owner, but she dismisses his scolding with an airy "Well, I am behind the times, aren't I?' and sweeps past Bill into the salon, leaving him speechless. He follows her, trying to coax more information about her, but she easily avoids his questioning. Mike checks her in. and mispronounces her last name, and she corrects him: "Jeannette Aucoin". Bill remembers that he's heard the name -- "the Old widow Aucoin? Lucas' friend?" Jeannette smiles archly and say, "Well, I'm not sure I'd use those words!" At that point, Lucas walks up, incredulous: "Jeannette?" and invites her into his office, leaving Lee, Bill and Mike staring after her in fascination.
Lucas comments, accusingly, that she didn't tell him that she was coming, and she murmured "It was a surprise,", to which he disagrees, saying the only surprises he likes are the ones that he does. At first she tells him that she was expecting an invitation to his wedding with the 'cute schoolteacher" that was in the papers. but never received one . . . "Oh, oops, it was called off!" she adds coyly. He mutters that she should keep Elizabeth's name out of "this” We learn that she had been an information for the The Treasury (whatever that means), but she swears she’s gone straight, and is representing some investors in Cape Fullerton who want to bid for the resort. He tries to get her to leave, but she refuses, showing him her hotel key.
Elizabeth stops by the saloon to discuss Lucas’ insistence on providing chocolate bunny candy to the children at the Easter egg hunt. She sees Mike and asks if Lucas is available. Over he shoulder, Mike sees Lucas and Jeannette coming out of the office. Lucas sees Elizabeth and gives Mike a slight shake of the head, and Mike proceeds to distract Elizabeth with awkward observations about chocolate and what it has to do with Easter. Puzzled, Elizabeth agrees, but then begins to turn towards Lucas’ office. Manfully, Mike throws himself into the task of distracting her, as Lucas arranges for Jeannette’s luggage to be carried to her room and watches her ascend the stairs. As Elizabeth begins to leave, Lucas calls her name, and they begin to discuss chocolate bunnies, as he reassures her that he has already ordered the candies. Elizabeth objects to the large bunnies, and suggests that the children will be just fine with smaller bunnies. With anxious glances over his shoulder, Lucas agrees to change the order. Elizabeth asks him why he is looking so nervous, as Mike looks on (obviously curious as to Lucas’ answer!) and Lucas replies that he’s just very busy (eyes darting back and forth.) Elizabeth doesn’t press it, and bids him goodbye, telling him that she’ll see him at the egg hunt. As she leaves, Mike asks Lucas “Who WAS that . . .?” but Lucas cuts him off and tells him to tell anyone else that he is “unavailable.”
Minnie gives Joseph a sandwich for lunch, as they joke that the Bible class he is teaching has a lot of arguments. Angela observes that “Mrs Thornton said that every argument can be settled when people listen,” which Joseph readily agrees to, and then Cooper asks “Have you ever listened to your brother?” to which Joseph responds that Jacob doesn’t speak to him.
Mike and Lee are waiting for Maisie to arrive, as Lee remarks that Mike seems nervous. Maisi is escorted in by Edwin, and immediately launches into Mike, telling him “How many times have I told you that blue simply washes you out?” Mike laughs nervously and said, “Oh, about 150 million!” as he quickly embraces her. She looks over his shoulder and spots Lee, who introduces himself. She raises an eyebrow at Mike and says “Afraid to take me on by yourself, Michael?” Seated around a table, Maisie declares that the access road is on the Benson Hills side, “of course” and Mike says, “So, you’ll get ALL the tourists?” “Of course!’ she responds matter-of-factly. Mike says she can’t just declare it – the meeting is meant to be a negotiation, and suggests that they build two roads. Maisie declares that “This is NON-negotiable.” Mike is deflated, and Lee, listening to the back-and-forth, suggests coming back to the roads, and talk about the resort. “The resort will be known as the Benson Hills Resort,” Maisie declares with finality. Mike and Lee protest, pointing out that the resort is on Hope Valley land. Maisie says that they can’t possibly expect her to agree to her naming of the resort, and she says that she thinks the meeting is a complete waste of her time. Lee implores Mike “she’s your sister, YOU deal with her!’ but Mike sits back and says, “Oh, she’s going easy on us.” Maisie points out that the meeting is a waste of time because no one is considering the downside of the resort. Lee asks her what the downside is, and she responds “Who’s to say that this won’t become a magnet for undesirables? And rum-runners?” All three men snort in disbelief, as Edwin declares “This resort is for families!” Maisie points that that another nearby resort promised the same thing, “and look what happened there! A decent person can’t walk down the street in safety anymore!” She demands to know what guarantees they can offer that it won’t happen here. All three men look at each other, but no one can respond. Edwin suggests taking a break for the evening. “Or the week,” mutters Mike. “Or the year!” declares Lee, glaring at Maisie.
Cooper is writing a letter to their Uncle Jacob with Allie. Angela observes that Uncle Jacob probably doesn’t even know who they are, but Cooper says he is writing it pretending to be Joseph. Allie declares that her dad would be so mad if she did that, and Angela agrees,, but Cooper observes, “What the worst that can happen? They aren’t talking to each other anyway.” Allie warns him that his dad might stop talking to him.
That evening, as he is rubbing her feet, Lee tells Rosemary that Jeannette has arrived at the saloon. Rosemary doesn’t quite remember, and he reminds her of when Elizabeth was held hostage by Amos at the saloon – Jeannette had called Lucas to warn him about Amos. “She’s an old widow that Lucas helped out of a jam, isn’t she?” Lee rolls his eyes and tells Rosemary that Jeannette is anything but a helpless old lady. “She could be a screen siren!’ he says, to which Rosemary declares indignantly that SHE is the local”screen siren.” Lee hastily explains that Jeannette could be an actress, but Rosemary would always be the leading lady. Rosemary scoffs, but is pleased by the comparison. She observes that Lucas has not been entirely honest about his background – and she needs to talk to Elizabeth immediately! Lee reminds her that it’s the middle of the night and she’s wearing her nightgown. “What has that ever stopped me?” she asks, but he notes that Elizabeth is probably asleep and Little Jack certainly is. Rosemary relents.
Maisie stops by the pharmacy and is greeted by Mei. She orders an ice cream, and Mei is making conversation asking if Maisie is in town for the egg hunt. Maisie observes that Mei obviously knows all of the town folk if she can spot a stranger that quickly and complements her. Mike walks in, sees Maisie, and demands to know what she is doing there. Mei, confused, tells him “This is a customer!’ “No, she’s not!” he retorts, and Maisie introduces herself to Mei, who suddenly understands Mike’s abruptness. Mike puts two and two together and realizes that his mother has asked Maisie to check out Mike’s new girlfriend while she’s in town. Mei is rather pleased that Mike has told his mother about her. As Michael grasps her hand, Maisie tells Mike that he really should take Mei to meet their mother.
Nathan is helping Elizabeth hide Easter eggs. She says that she was good at hunting Easter eggs, but always shared (I wonder if her sisters remember it the same way . . . ) Nathan hides an egg high up in a trellis, and Elizabeth protests that it is too high for the little ones. Nathan things about it for a moment, then looks at Elizabeth and declares, “I think if someone wants something badly enough, they will find a way to get it.” (ooooh, double-entendre time . . . ). Elizabeth thinks about it for a moment, then replies, “What if there’s a chance they could get hurt?” (more double entendres . . . ) Nathan, matter-of-factly, answers her with “Well, I guess they just have to decide if it’s worth it or not.” Elizabeth avoids answering, and states “Well, a chocolate egg definitely isn’t worth it!” as she reaches for an empty bucket to stand on to retrieve the egg. In a completely silly and obvious-from-a- mile-away-maneuver, she reaches for the egg as Nathan warns her to be careful, and then slips off the bucket into his arms. Close embrace, wide eyes – and then they hear Allie calling and break away, flustered. Allie sees them standing close together, awkwardly, and asks when the egg hunt will start. “Soon!” they both assure her, as she gives them A Look and walks away. Elizabeth walks away, too, but Nathan replaces the egg high in the trellis.
Jeannette greets Lucas, who is reading the Valley Voice at breakfast, with a cheerful “Allo, cherie!” He suggests she should leave, but she refuses. He’s not interested in her investors. She protests that the are legitimate, but he insists that the hotel will be aboveboard, and that he’s changed – he’s not like her. “I’ve told you – I’ve changed, too” she says, leaning across the table just as Rosemary bustles into the saloon and to Lucas’ dismay, introduces herself to Jeannette, telling her that she’s become “quite the local legend around here!” “Have I?” Jeannette drawls. “What on earth have you been telling people about me?” she asks Lucas, who denies saying anything and tries to shoo Rosemary away. Rosemary stands her ground, stares at Jeannette, then turns to Lucas, asking, “You haven’t seen . . Elizabeth . . have you?” Jeannette is fascinated. “No, I have not,” responds Lucas politely, as Rosemary leaves. “Elizabeth? She’s the schoolteacher, isn’t she? Your erstwhile fiancee’? Jeannette observes. Lucas tells her that’s none of her concern, and that she should submit a bid, if she must, and then she can be on her way.
Rosemary hurries to tell Elizabeth that Jeannette Aucoin is in town to visit Lucas, but is cut short when children begin arriving for the Easter egg hunt. Lucas comes out to officially start the egg hunt, and as the kids scurry away, Elizabeth asks him if there is anything she should know about. Lucas tells her, “No, I don’t think so,” and keeps moving.
Mike is in the pharmacy, apologizing for his sister spying on Mei, but Mei tells him that she is flattered. Mike tells her that Maisie really likes her, but she makes him feel incompetent. Mei takes his coat lapels and tells him, firmly, that he is brilliant, capable and handsome – and they finally get their kiss.
Nathan is helping Little Jack hunt for eggs, as Elizabeth watches from afar. Picture perfect Hallmark moment.
Lucas is accompanying Jeannette out of the saloon, given her a receipt for her bid, ,and will let her know as soon as her investors pass a background check. She looks at him reproachfully and tells him that she still cares, “I am no longer living that life. Thank you for your bid, Miss Aucoin,” as he pointedly opens her car door for her. Silently, she glares at him, gets in and drives away – but stops in the middle of the street when she spies Elizabeth. She gets out and approaches Elizabeth, but Lucas can’t get to her quickly enough to stop her from introducing herself to a surprised Elizabeth. “We have something in common – you see, I was once engaged to Lucas Bouchard, too.” Elizabeth just smiles and says it is nice to meet her as she quickly looks at Lucas, who seems to be living a nightmare. Jeannette casually walks up to him and tells him goodbye, leaving forward to kiss him as he hastily turns his head away. Jeannette hops back in the car to leave, and Elizabeth, with a half-smile on her face, turns to Lucas. “Poor widow Jennette?” she asks with a grin. Nathan and Allie come around the corner just in time to see them in conversation as Elizabeth continues to question Lucas: “This is why you’ve been acting so strange? You didn’t want us to meet?” The children are returning from the hunt and are surrounding them as they talk. Lucas declares the hunt over
Rosemary and Elizabeth walk together after the egg hunt, and Rosemary observes that Elizabeth is taking “it” very well. Elizabeth wonders why Lucas never told her the truth about Jeannette, and Rosemary tells her it’s because he had her on a pedestal and didn’t want her to think badly of him. Elizabeth retorts that she doesn’t want to be on a pedestal, she likes her feet firmly on the ground. Rosemary asks if she isn’t glad to know about Jeannette, so she doesn’t have to worry about having broken Lucas’ heart. “His heart is a lot more resilient than that!’ Elizabeth declares.
Elizabeth comes down the stairs gingerly, listening to make sure Little Jack is asleep. She breathes a sigh of relief, but there a knock at the door: Nathan. He offers her the chocolate egg he hid, and told her that she was right, it was too hard for the kids to find, so he brought it to her, who had risked life and limb for it. She takes the egg gingerly, giggling, and their hands brush together. Holding the egg, she looks at him and tells him, “I guess sometimes the chocolate egg is worth the risk.” Nathan then brings up Jeannette, and Elizabeth admits that she was a little shocked. Nathan said he felt a little bad for Lucas “being caught out like that in front of everybody.” Suddenly Little Jack calls “Mama!” and the conversation stops as Elizabeth returns inside.
Back at the saloon, Lucas is reviewing Jeannette’s bid, and finds a picture of the two of them that she has slipped into the file. He sighs.

2024.04.22 21:06 ravensxwritingxdesk 11.3 - Finally some improvement???

I went into this episode with relatively low expectations so I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it? I still have several gripes but I think overall this ep remembered that the show is best when it's an ensemble piece and not Elizabeth's personal soap opera. Imo it feels like proof that maybe the series doesn't really need Elizabeth to be interesting at this point; her romance story line is the weakest subplot to me and I feel like not a lot would be lost if it was cut out entirely. Some of the stuff going on with the other characters is finally starting to be compelling again and I'm more invested in that than in whatever they have planned for her and the Endless Love Triangle™
As usual, here's some thoughts:
  1. Lucas/Elizabeth/Nathan - Not much change here, I still feel like they're just re-hashing what was already supposed to have been resolved. We've already seen Nathan fearing that he'll lose Elizabeth to Lucas, we don't need to see a repeat of that insecurity, nor do we need to see a repeat of a will they/won't they dynamic with either of them. I'm annoyed because my fear for Nathan seems to be coming true - that he's being reduced to the guy that Elizabeth strings along again as opposed to reaching his full potential as an individual character. I wish they'd just do something else with him, like incorporate him more into the investigation storyline. I get as a Mountie he can't officially do as much as Bill and Rosemary, but he could be so much more than Elizabeth's love interest. It's like the writers don't want to explore who he is beyond that. Also on Lucas - I still can't wrap my head around the point of the Lucabeth breakup if he was just going to end up back in Hope Valley anyway. Him coming back just nullifies the purpose of it? She mainly broke up because she didn't want to move. Well, now he's in HV again so??? That's never going to stop bugging me lol
  2. Mike & Mei - Still not feeling it, if anything it felt even more forced because of the lack of buildup to their relationship. Again, I can tell they're trying to go for awkwardly cute but it keeps reading as more awkward than cute. I think part of the problem for me is that while I can tell Mike is very into Mei, it feels like she doesn't reciprocate on the same level? I don't think the writers intended it to come across that way, and this is no disrespect to the actors (who I think are doing well with what they've been given), but something about their chemistry feels off to me. Just my personal opinion but it just seems imbalanced, and I'm still not sure why they chose this particular couple out of nowhere 🤷
  3. Rosemary - Okay, I am LIVING for her Nancy Drew arc right now. Imo this is the best thing the show has done with her character in ages and I've been more invested in her storyline than in anything else so far. I love that they're actually taking it seriously instead of treating it like a joke (I know, shocker). Pascale is finally getting to show off her dramatic range again, plus now we're seeing a side to Rosemary that's deeper than her just being the town's busybody. In fact, it's re-contexualized her nosiness as an asset rather than as either comedic relief or an annoyance. Her hyper-attention to detail is what makes her such a good investigative reporter. I think she has much more agency as a character than Elizabeth at this point. Again, I reiterate what I said last week about really wanting a spinoff centered around her solving mysteries. It's become an unexpected strength for her and I wouldn't mind an entire series where that's the main focus.
  4. The Canfields - I'm glad it finally seems like they're doing something with them. I get the feeling Joseph's brother is going to show up later in the season, and I'm grateful for that honestly because his storyline has been kind of stagnant lately. I liked what they did with the kids too, I just wish Minnie was being given more to do. Maybe explore her involvement with the daycare center? They're still sleeping on her potential imo
  5. Faith & Lily - Idk why but they're continuing to grow on me. Faith actually seems happier fostering this kid than she has been about anything else in awhile, so good for her? 🤷
  6. Henry - I love him but is he going to get a storyline this season? It seems like he's just there not doing much except to occasionally get dragged into other people's business (e.g. the daycare)
  7. Elizabeth - Her strength as a character is in her interactions with the kids. If only they'd pivot away from the love triangle and focus more on her being a teacher again, I think she'd be more palatable to the audience that way. I actually really liked how sweet she was with the math kid (I forget his name). She seems to be most interesting when she's NOT involved in a romance? I get by virtue of this being a Hallmark show having romantic subplots is kind of a requirement, but they never seem to know how to execute hers well enough, at least not since Jack
  8. The Kids - Did Opal and Emily leave the show? I haven't seen them around lately unless I haven't been paying attention. I've always liked them but I understand if the actresses have moved on to other things (or taken a break for school, normal life, etc.) since they were on the show for a long time

2024.04.21 18:04 Super-Floor2712 Roles Cate Blanchett turned down

The Queen of Acting and supercoolness has had and still has an extraordinary career in both film, television and on stage. Here is a small list of roles she declined for different reasons
01) Portia Blanchett was the original choice to play Portia in this Michael Redford adaption of The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare. Blanchett had to drop out in the last minute due to pregnancy. We were robbed of Blanchett and Pacino acting together. The interesting thing is that Ian McKellen was also cast in the movie and dropped out in the last minute due to scheduling conflicts. So we were also robbed by Ian and Cate acting once again in the same movie. The cast is: Al Pacino, Lynn Collins, Jeremy Irons, Charlie Cox, Joseph Fiennes etc
02) Anna Cate Blanchett had to drop out right before filming started due to pregnancy. Director Mike Nichols had to recast the role of Anna. The candidate were Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts. He went with Roberts. This role became like a renessaince for Julia Roberts in getting better and more dramatic work in the future to come. We were robbed of Blanchett acting with Law, Owen and Portman. I believe the decision to drop out of this really hurt Blanchett. The script is adapted by Patrick Marber. Marber later wrote a role for Blanchett in Notes on a Scandal. I believe Closer would have been a way better movie with Blanchett. Her delivery of Anna’s line would have been so fire! And hopefully, in fantasy land, netted her a second best actress nomination and a possible double nomination since this is the same year as The Aviator. The cast: Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Clive Owen and Natalie Portman.
03) Marianne Lane Cate Blanchett was the original choice to play Marianne Lane in A Bigger Splash, directed by Luca Guadagnino. Tilda Swinton replaced her and the rest is history. Since the replacement is as strong as Blanchett itself, I have no complaints. But we were robbed of a reunion between Blanchett and Fiennes since their Oscar and Lucinda days. Blanchett declined due to her on stage performance in The Maids with Isabelle Huppert and Elizabeth Debicki in New York. Margot Robbie was also originally cast but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. We were robbed of a possible Aussie duo Cate-Margot fire on screen together. The cast: Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Dakota Johnson and Matthias Schoenarts
04) Agatha Blanchett was committed to play Agatha in Minority Report by Steven Spielberg. But because Spielberg wanted to do A.I first, the filming was postponed from late 1999 to April 2001. Blanchett dropped out due to scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Samantha Morton. Morton was fantastic as Agatha so no complaints here. Both Ian McKellen and Meryl Streep were also attached to the movie, but that did not happen. We were robbed once again with a possible Cate-Ian duo on screen and Blanchett with Tom Cruise as well. The cast: Samantha Morton, Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell, Max von Sydow, Jessica Capshaw and more.
05) Isabel / Izzi Creo In early 2002, Blanchett and Brad Pitt was about to start shooting The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky. But because Pitt and Aronofsky had major creative differences, the project was shut down. The roles were recast in 2004 with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. Though Weisz is a good actress, I am still curious about what Blanchett could do in an Aronofsky movie. The cast: Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz, Ellen Burstyn etc
06) Francis Ford Coppola Cate Blanchett mention she had been contacted by Francis Ford Coppola for a role “When Francis calls, just have to say yes. Because you’re on the epic life-changing adventure ride. You’re on that roller coaster. I’m ready for that”
Well she dropped out of Megapolis so what ever happen that, I dunno
07) Lucille Ball For many, many years, Cate Blanchett has talked about Lucille Ball and potentially playing her. She was cast with Aron Sorkin both directing and writing. Blanchett dropped because the movie went in a direction she was not ready for. Kidman was replaced and the result was not very good at all. Oscar Isaac was in talks as well
08) Pay gap difference in spring 2018 She was offered a lead role and getting lesser paid than her male co-lead. Cate tried to negotiate with the studio but they said no. And so did she. The greatest actress in the world with two Oscars and highly acclaimed movies, could not get equal pay in 2018. That is so gross
09) Considered for Clarice Starling in Hannibal / Ada in Cold Mountain/ Roxy Heart in Chicago / Evelyn Johnson in Pearl Harbor / Audrey Dunn in Unbreakable / Jane Smith in Mr & Mrs Smith/ Hippolyta in Wonder Woman
10) Illeana Cate was offered the role of Illeana in Taking Lives by D.J. Caruso. Angelina Jolie got the part. The cast: Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke, Gena Rowlands, Kiefer Sutherland, Olivier Martinez etc
11) Mrs Fox Blanchett was set to voice Mrs Fox in the Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr Fox, but was replaced by Meryl Streep for undisclosed reasons
12) Melissa Lewis Blanchett was committed to play Melissa Lewis in The Martian, but had to drop out due to her on stage schedule with The Maids in New York. Jessica Chastain replaced her. I’m glad she dropped out because the role itself is not that much. Chastain is a good replacement and doing her best
13) more to come After Tar, she has turned down roles because she was exhausted after playing Lydia Tar. She needed a break

2024.04.16 18:43 Wide_Mobile_6623 Saints Row Movie Fan Cast (Not a shitpost)

Alright, considering my shitpost last time kinda rubbed people the wrong way, this time I ACTUALLY sat down and thought of the cast for a Saints Row movie/ Series. I did use some of the original VAs from the games but I used other actors for certain roles simply because of age. Trust me, It sucks but im going in this thinking as a franchise/series but still trying to pick an actoactress that can embody that character from the game. Anyway, Tell me what you think?
The Saints
Johnny Gat- Daniel Dae Kim(Obvious. He is Johnny Gat no matter what.)
Boss- ?
Pierce- Tyrese Gibson (I mean, he literally is Pierce in Fast and the Furious, and can also play serious roles like in the film Waist Deep and Four Brothers.)
Shaundi-Eliza Dukshu, or Peyton List (Trying to go off of the Older Brother Little Sister relationship she developed with Johnny, hence why I chose someone younger for Shaundi. If not, Eliza all the way.)
Carlos- Xolo Mariduena (I personally think he can pull off the young, inexperienced gangster that wants to prove himself to the Saints.)
Julius- Ketih David (I mean, come on.)

Troy- Garrett Hedlund, Aaron Paul, or Jake Gyellenhal. (This is no hate towards Michael Rappaport. He played Troy well back in the day. However, in a live action series/film, I don't think he would be able to sell the idea of him being a gangstedetective. I would think he would be more as the chief of police itself here. I went with someone who can be in the age brackett of an undercover cop, but can sell it to the audience that he ISN'T a cop type of thing. Idk, to me I just feel like people who aren't SR fans would believe he isn't one. If you disagree, then thats okay.)
Dex- Larenz Tate. (Idk, im still iffy on that one.)
Lin- Constance Wu (SUPER underrated Actress)
Oleg- ? (I really couldn't think of someone who can play a giant russian dude.)
Angel- Wilmer Valderramma. (Again, iffy on that one.)
Zimos- Damon Wayans, or Martin Lawerence. (They both have that funny character but can be pretty serious at times.)
Kinzie Kensington- Florence Pugh. (She could honestly kill the quirky nerdy Fed who is a secret Sex Addict. Other than that, I don't know. This is one I genuinely struggled on getting.)
Los Carnales
Angelo Lopez- Richard Cabral. ( I think he can REALLY pull off the hot headed Angelo well.)
Hector Lopez- Emilio Rivera. (Literally, pull up a picture of him and Hector and he looks PERFECT FOR IT.)
Luz- Alexa Demie (Her performance in Euphoria was great for an emotional abuse victim. I think she and Richard would do great with it.)
Victor- Benicio Del Torro (He can probably pull off the strong silent type)
Maneul Orejuela- Wagner Moura or Edward James Olmos. (He has experience playing cartel drug lords, that being Pablo Escobar in Narcos and in 2 Guns.)
Westside Rollerz
William Sharpe- Tom Wilkinson. (Dude was made for this role)
Joseph Price- Steve Howey. (Again, due was made for it.)
Vice Kings
Benjamin King-50 Cent, Idris Elba, or Ice Cube. (I was going in this looking for someone who can pull off the Media Rap Mogul yet still looks like they can fold you in half in a fight and the gang leader look, which led me to these three.)
Tanya Winters- Mila Kunis. (NO ONE can play her except her.)
Warren Williams- Michael Rainey Junior. (From Power)
Anthony Greene- Omari Hardwick (Again, from power)
Did I miss anyone?

2024.04.08 20:28 CP4-Throwaway A rough estimate of celebs that may seem more X, M, or Y from Famous Birthdays, based on the widest definition of my personal transitional Gen Y/Anadigital/Xennial/MilleXer microgeneration, b. circa 1977-1985 (UPDATED)

Just for context, in this specific post:
X = Gen X
Y = Cusp
M = Millennial
This is a repost from the original (which was an extension of the very original post here) that I did a few years back, just to be updated for 2024 because I thought it'd be to fun to explore this again.
But I will exclude the 1984-1985 list because that'd be way too long. I'll add them in the comment sections. So in this post, I'll focus on the celebrities born from 1977-1983.
I know the vast majority of this sub will disagree but I'll post it anyway.
This is based on the vibes and/or appearance of the celebrity so please don't take this too seriously as this may or may not be accurate, depending on one's view of Gen X and Millennials.
This is based on my current perception of these celebrities.

2024.04.07 15:21 dremolus Horror Summer Schedule 2024

With summer starting next month, it's a good time to remember what horror movies will be out this year. Horror may not bring in the huge numbers all of the blockbusters do but there's a reason it's one of the most thriving genres. Which of these movies are you most looking forward to watching and how well do you think these movies will do, and which do you think will wind up as a surprise summer hit with legs?
Tarot
May 3
A group of teens start dying in ways related to their tarot readings. Originally nicknamed Horrorscope, if I'm being honest this looks to be a cheap Sony horror movie but maybe it's a lot more self-aware and comedic similar to how Thanksgiving was so who knows. Either way, it's the first major horror movie to kick off the summer.
I Saw the TV Glow
May 3 (limited release)
The second film from Jane Schoenbrun who brought up 2022's We're All Going to the World's Fair, the film follows two neighbors who become entranced by a mysterious TV program late at night. The film premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival to acclaim, currently sitting with an 8.2 average on RottenTomatoes and is one of two A24 horror movies so for those into challenging, experimental indie horror, this might be one watch. Although this is one to actively seek out since it isn't going to be in wide release.
New Life
May 3 (limited release and day-in-date VOD)
This isn't getting much attention as it's going to VOD but I figure mentioning it because it looked interesting. Set in a sort of post-apocalyptic world, an agent is on the hunt for a women trying to cross the Canadian border. If you want to see this movie and no nearby theaters are playing it, it will be available for video on demand.
The Strangers: Chapter 1
May 17
Director Renny Harlin takes over The Strangers franchises to deliver the first of a new trilogy of films set in the same continuity as the two previous movies, with Chapter 1 functioning as a sort of soft-reboot prequel. The premise isn't anything too disimilar from the previous movies so if you're fine with yet another story of masked home invader terrorizing a couple, this one might be up your alley.
Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever
May 17 (Shudder release)
We've got a Danish horror film now and one a bit more ambition. As a woman takes up a night watch job to find the truth behind her parents' death 30 years ago, all while engaging in a cat & mouse chase between a serial killer who's recently awoken from his coma. If this synopsis sounds interesting, for horror fans it'll be on Shudder soon.
In a Violent Nature
May 31 (limited release)
The feature film directorial debut of Chris Nash who also served as the special effects supervisor for the cult horror comedy Psycho Goreman, In a Violent Nature also debuted this year at Sundance to a lot of positive reviews albeit ones that noted how dark, disturbing, and uncomfortable the film is. An abstract horror film about a malevolent spirit taking over a body going on a killing spree in the forrest, it's safe to say this won't be easy viewing but for those looking for a challenging watch this in select theaters on May 31. Shudder has also picked up streaming rights although an exact date is still yet to be known.
The Watchers
June 14
We're getting double Shyamalan features this year, starting with Ishana Night Shyamalan making her directorial debut. An adaptation of the 2016 novel by A.M. Shine, Dakota Fanning stars as a woman who wakes up odd house in an remote forest in Ireland. Three other strangers are also in the house as all of them are watched by dark shadowy creatures. Given this is her directorial debut, it'll be interesting if Ishana follows in her fathers footsteps of being a reliable and resourceful director or if she peaks with her debut as well.
A Quiet Place: Day One
June 28
The latest in perhaps the biggest or at least most profitable mainstream horror franchise, much like Strangers Chapter One we're going back to the beginning to the very first day the Death Angels arrived on earth and started killing people who so much as made a cough. However, taking over the directing chair from John Kransinski is Michael Sarnoski who looks to follow up the acclaim of his 2021 debut 'Pig' starring Nicholas Cage by making a more expensive blockbuster film. We also have completely new actors to follow in this prequel as Lupita Nyong'o, Djimon Hounsou, Alex Wolff, and Joseph Quinn are the heroes we follow trying to survive the alien threat.
MaXXXine
July 5
The conclusion to Ti West's surprising breakout Pearl trilogy, this time we follow Mia Goth's Maxine Minx in the seedy and sleezy film industry in the 1980s - a time of low budget shlock, porn, and in some cases a little bit of both. She thinks she gets her big break when a serial killer starts targeting the starlets of Hollywood. Also joining Goth in the cast are Giancarlo Esposito, Elizabeth Debicki, Halsey, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, and Kevin Bacon. Truly bring in all the big stars for this finale.
Sleep
July 5 (limited release)
South Korea recently hit it huge with Exhuma being a huge blockbuster and if you're looking for more South Korean horror, this should satisfy your cravings. The film follows a couple and their newborn as the wife starts becoming afraid and paranoid of her husbands sleepwalking behavior for fear of harming their new baby. This film also marks the last movie for actor Lee Sun-kyun who was in the k-dramas Coffee Prince and Mr. Mister, and who played the rich father in Parasite. Sun-kyun sadly passed away back in late 2023.
Longlegs
July 12
Of course it's not just A24 who's delivering indie horror to the masses. And following the recent success of the Sydney Sweeney led Immaculate, NEON is looking to hit again with Longlegs. Maika Monroe of It Follows fame stars as a detective in the 1974 who's on the hunt for a serial killer played by Nicholas Cage. The trailers and marketing campaign have actually gone viral on the horror community and with Oz Perkins (who gave us 2015's The Blackcoat’s Daughter), I'm curious to see if this lives up to the hype or if maybe the legs should've been cut short.
Trap
Aug 2
I did say we were getting two Shyamalan movies and here is the head of the table himself. M. Night Shyamalan movies are typically unique and special, for better or (often) for worse. This movie tackles a father and daughter who go to a pop concert only to realize it's a darker event than they realized. Again, this could either turn out surprisingly good or unusually bad but if you're going to see it regardless, it's out early August.
Cuckoo
Aug 9
And just in case you weren't done with NEON and horror movies, here comes their third horror movie. The film stars Hunter Schafer in the lead role as a teen who moves to the German Alps to be with her father and his new family. She starts hearing strange noises and having odd visions that lead her to a dark family secret. The film also stars Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick, and it'll be interesting to see how all of NEON's horror movies do this year.
Alien: Romulus
Aug 16
Apart from A Quiet Place: Day One, this one might be the biggest horror release this summer and the one I'm most excited by and most cautious of. Fede Álvarez seeks to redeem and resurrect the Alien franchises for modern audiences as he did with 2013's Evil Dead, as a cast of mostly talented young actors find themselves having to run or fight a Xenomorph. Fresh off her acclaimed performance in Priscilla, Cailee Spaeny is the new lead actress alongside David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, and Isabela Merced in the cast. If this film also sucks the way Prometheus and Alien: Covenant were then this franchise may be irrevicably damaged for good so I really hope this is a return to form for the series.

2024.04.07 15:17 dremolus Horror Summer Schedule 2024

With summer starting next month, it's a good time to remember what horror movies will be out this year. Which of these movies are you most looking forward to watching?
Tarot
May 3
A group of teens start dying in ways related to their tarot readings.

2024.04.07 10:13 CP4-Throwaway A rough estimate of celebs that I believe may seem more M, Z, or H from Famous Birthdays, based on the widest definition of my personal transitional Millander/Generation Z/Centennial microgeneration, b. circa 1997-2006 (UPDATED)

Just for context, in this specific post:
M = Millennial
Z = Cusp
H = Homelander
This is a repost from the original (which was an extension of the very original post here) that I did a few years back, just to be updated for 2024 because I thought it'd be to fun to explore this again.
But I will exclude the 2005-2006 list because that'd be way too long. I'll add them in the comment sections. So in this post, I'll focus on the celebrities born from 1997-2004.
I know the vast majority of this sub will disagree but I'll post it anyway.
This is based on the vibes and/or appearance of the celebrity so please don't take this too seriously as this may or may not be accurate, depending on one's view of Millennials and the generation after them.
This is based on my current perception of these celebrities.
WARNING: THIS POST WILL BE SUPER LONG!!! DISCRETION ADVISED!!!!!!
