2023.12.14 18:29 AShortUsernameIndeed Fry Pacu Fry (a useless little machine with detailed build instructions)

Firstly, no, I'm not completely serious here. This is an implementation of a part of a rather impractical but intriguing idea from the Klei forums. Do with it as you see fit. Secondly, if you want to build this (you silly human), you need steel, aluminum radiant pipes are highly recommended, and supercoolant would make it bearably efficient.
What am I looking at?
This is a machine that fries fish in petroleum while cooling down something else very slightly. It exploits the fact that Pacu spawn at a fixed temperature, weigh 200kg, die when heated to 50°C above their spawning temperature, and on death turn into a 1kg fillet that (experimentally) is only about twice as hot as the dead critter, so about 99% of the heat energy put into the fish simply disappears. Genetic ooze has a fairly high SHC, so this amounts to ~34kDTU per Pacu. In other words, if you fry two fish per second (so, more than 1800 breeder Pacu), it would not quite match an AETN (80kDTU/s) in terms of cooling. Fish are foodfriends, not freon.
How does it work?
The upper left section represents the classic Pacu farm target tank selector: fry eggs go in the middle to hatch. If the left door is open, freshly hatched fish find their way into the breeder tank. If the right door is open, into the fryer they go. You automate this with a critter sensor in the breeder tank.
The frying tank is vacuum-locked to keep the heat in. Pacu path through the droplet lock, find themselves in 250°C petroleum and overheat painlessly (and happy!) within about half a cycle. The remains are put on a conveyor rail. It’s recommended to cool them down a bit before letting them into a freezer or even just a kitchen; they come out at about 160°C.
Beneath the frying tank, coupled by aluminum metal tiles and diamond tempshift plates, is the powerhouse of the fryer, a steel aquatuner in about 50kg of steam per tile. It cools down a cooling loop as long as the steam is below 250°C and the coolant is more than 14°C above its freezing temperature (I used water, so the pipe thermo sensor is set to 14°).
Below that is a liquid tepidizer in 1000kg/tile of water. It will run if the coolant is less than 14°C above its freezing temperature, so that the aquatuner always has work to do if it wants to heat the petroleum. If you’re cooling anything more substantial than a couple lamps with the loop, this is likely unnecessary. Since the automation makes sure that tepidizer and aquatuner can’t run at the same time, it is perfectly safe to power them and the shipping equipment from a single conductive wire circuit.
The piping overlay shows the regular cooling loop, needlessly chilling a water tank that also doubles as a fillet heat sink.
I want one!
Really? Okay… Build this from the bottom up: first the tepidizer tank. Once that is full, close it up and build the aquatuner tank. Dump in a thin layer of polluted or saltwater, followed by two bottles of water, to get two full layers. Close that up, build the frying tank and add petroleum until there are again two layers (about 3 tons of petroleum). Drop 300g of petroleum or crude or naphtha on the left wall. Close the tank, put a tile in the vacuum spot and deconstruct it to get the vacuum. Fill the coolant loop through a bridge while the aquatuner is off. Done. Depending on the temperature of the materials, it will take up to 10 cycles or so to warm up while consuming lots of power. Once at 250°C, the power draw is proportional to the number of fish passing through. So is, sadly, the cooling.
But… why?
Just cause. Also, if you have a lot of breeder Pacu, too much power, and dupes that are impatient to get seafood, this is slightly faster to get up to speed than letting the fish starve, and arguably also more… dupane? ;) Have fun!

In addition, products described as "fragrance-free" may legally contain fragrance chemicals -- as long as they are being used for a purpose other than scent. The term "unscented" also doesn't indicate that a product is fragrance-free. It can describe products that use fragrance chemicals to mask other strong smells, Katta explained.

However, acrolein is not only produced by smoking but also when vegetable or animal fats are overheated, for example during cooking or deep-frying. ADO Bus Guide by u/luisettyphoto

Introduction This is a basic guide for the ADO bus line, it is one of the cheapest and most comfortable ways to move to at least the 3 main cities such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. ADO is a bus company, but there are other companies that have other routes and interconnect at the main stations.
  • Pros: Economic. Air-conditioning. You learn Spanish with movies. Comfortable seats. USB ports to recharge electronic devices.
  • Cons: Limited Trips. Limited Hours.
Extra comments: Before they had WIFI service, but in recent months I have not seen them have the service on the BUS, but there is free service at the ADO stations, sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes there are no runs for the routes, during the pandemic the routes were limited and little by little they have been reactivated. Please check on the website what times are available. If you arrive early in the morning or late at night, it will not be possible to get a ride through ADO.
Terminals
  • Aeropuerto Cancún: T2, T3 and T4
  • Terminal Autobuses ADO Cancún Centro. Address: Pino Lote 1 y 2, Supermanzana 23, 77500 Cancún, Q.R.
  • Playa Del Carmen. Address: Centro, Quinta Avenida 141, Solidaridad, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R.
  • Tulum. Address: Tulum Centro, 77780 Tulum, Quintana Roo
Where to buy tickets? Tickets can be purchased at ado.com.mx or the box office at the above locations Extra comments: You can choose your seat, it depends on availability in the window or aisle. I recommend selecting seats below the TV unless you are not interested in watching a movie in Spanish. There are notices that immigration authorities may do random checks to reduce illegal immigration. They ask for documents to passengers to check legal status as tourist with the dates assigned to their stay in the country or nationals. If traveling with minors/children, official government ID/passport is required to prove relationship. Security may ask for documentation.
What are the costs? Depends. Prices may change, but they are quite affordable. Prices are in MXN. And they are taken from their official website. These prices are for information only and may change without notice (2022.09.14)
  • Cancun T2 to T3 costs $18 MXN
  • Cancun T1/T2 to Downtown Cancun costs $105 MXN
  • Cancun T1/T2 to Playa Del Carmen costs $225 MXN
  • Cancun T1/T2 to Tulum costs $340 MXN
There are discount prices for Mexicans such as students, teachers and senior citizens with valid credentials. Require identification of the school and/or INAPAM Extra comments: Preferably have change in MXN. They also accept credit/debit cards, although the terminal may fail. Dollars are always accepted, but there is no exchange for dollars. Have exact amount of preference. Extra Tip: Sometimes there are temporary promotions of 50% OFF if you buy in advance and online. This through its official site or in its app via appstore or android. Applies to foreigners, residents and nationals.
What are the routes? There are many routes, the most basic ones help you get around in the Riviera Maya. But they can also find other neighboring states of Quintana Roo such as Yucatán and Chiapas. To the south with Belize/Guatemala sometimes.
Destination Cities
  • CANCUN
  • PLAYA DEL CARMEN
  • TULUM
Extra comments: In terminals such as Cancún Centro, Playa del Carmen and Tulum they have a large map so you can see the routes.
Health, Precautions and Hygiene The Quintana Roo government and the health secretary have regulations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ADO mentions that it disinfects and cleans its buses. However, this does not ensure that they are COVID-free. ADO requires safety masks to be worn during your ride. We recommend having a travel disinfectant gel for personal use.
Security Like any bus terminal, there is a risk that your belongings can be stolen. Always check your seat before getting off the bus and at the top for your bags. ADO staff is always uniformed and identified. Most thefts are done on top of forgotten objects. If you have large luggage, do not forget that a ticket for your belongings is given to you so that your bags can be given to you in the lower part of the compartment.
Extra Comments: On the way from Cancun to Tulum there may be some checkpoints and they may stop the bus for random checks. This is to control and reduce illegal immigration. This can be done by the National Guard or the Quintana Roo State Police. Tips are not mandatory, but are always appreciated for the staff of the buses that move luggage.
Final comments Traveling by bus in the Riviera Maya is a good economic option, comfortable to travel. Perhaps its disadvantage is the schedules. For example, if your destination is Tulum, there may not be a trip available at your desired time, but maybe you can take a bus to Playa del Carmen and take a combi or van that arrives in Tulum or you can wait for another bus that travels to Tulum. Small Shuttles departs from the Playa Del Carmen Station Bus.
Just have common sense and be careful with your personal belongings, I wish you have a good trip.
Tip from u/Flimsy_Difficulty239 "When you get there there's gonna be people shouting ado, don't go with them, they're scammers. Go straight to the kiosk. Don't buy the tickets in advance in case your flight gets delayed."

2020.04.30 15:23 hashtag_murica How do you responsibly source your foods?

I’m an aspiring chef just trying to expand my cooking, but I’m also very conscious of the effects meats and other foods can have on the environment. For this reason, I cut meat out of my diet nearly a year ago, with cheese following suit more recently. However, I do know there are places that responsibly source food that may not be as detrimental to the environment—I just don’t know where to find these places!
Recently, I’ve found a website called EDF Seafood Selector that provides a pretty comprehensive lists of the best eco-friendly and healthy choices, but I don’t know a ton about the farming practices and environmental impacts outside of what this site tells me. Along the same lines, I know the buzzwords for sourcing non-oceanic meats (organic, free range, farm assured, grass fed et al.), but I really have no idea where to start when looking for the best meats or if these terms really do mean much in terms of environmental impact.
What are some of the resources y’all use for finding responsibly sourced meats? Specific websites, brands/stores, and important qualities of the process would all be appreciated.
Are there any meats that are so detrimental environmentally that it may be best to just forget about if I’m trying to be eco-friendly?
Lastly, since after this I’ll probably continue my vegetarian diet but with infrequent meats on special occasions, what are your favorite vegetarian meals I can have day-to-day or non-vegetarian meals I can have as a special treat every once in a while???
Thanks for making it through my mini essay, I’ll be sure to update periodically with my prettiest meals and best food finds!
