2024.05.16 19:24 sjohnson737 Onyxia keeps destroying me
Watched a few vids multiple times read every post since 4.0 mentioning onyxia and basically it comes down to I suck. I've got a drank deck 26+. All minis just dinged and none close to having enough stars to upgrade. Basically I can't get any stronger any time soon without being a whale. Constantly get to phase 3 barely then run out of time.
Using pryo, eggs, bandits, skeleton, shaman, then either drake or witch doctor though honestly I can't tell much difference. All using right talents and all minis higher than recommend.
- What's better drake or WD? My WD died like 1/4th the time and then that side gets wrecked
- How do you stop from losing everything when phase shifts? Most videos it's off screen or they pull some magic where the whelps save the day. I just throw skeleton party the second it pops to retake one of the towers then fight like hell to hold onto it which I know is wrong.
*Any other tips that weren't intuitive?
Getting nervous with the whelps getting nerfed soon and all my other minis are super low and or common and figure I'll just quit if I can't get it by then.
Tl:Dr I suck at this game, any onyxia tips appreciated

2024.05.16 17:16 ProgressiveRascals Peter Jackson's King Kong game - imsim-lite hidden gem?
So
this video just popped up in my feed, and with the disclosure that I haven't played it myself, there were a few bits that caught my attention (albeit more towards the Bioshock than System Shock end of the scale). Some highlights
- It's (mostly) first-person
- Systemically-driven combat + world interactions (example from the vid: grubs can be speared > spears can be thrown > speared grubs attract dinosaurs > grass dinos are standing in can be lit on fire)
- Super Minimal Onscreen UI Elements (e.g. by default, there's no ammo counter onscreen... the player character vocally approximates how much ammo is left)
- The game has a general commitment to a compelling visual aesthetic throughout - not to say graphics trump gameplay, but I think they are a part of what makes something "immersive" rather than just a "simulation."
From a historical perspective, this is a 2005 Ubisoft game, which almost makes it seem like a dry run for 2008's Far Cry 2. Looking into it, it also seems like the game was a solid
commercial success) too (even though I slept on it myself). Does anyone here have first-hand memories of this game?

2024.05.16 15:38 dreambigkc Bummed the long form pod is over.
LCB BOYS,
Wow. So, back when the podcast came out in like what, 2017 or so when the show was still just LCP and I found something I would love for like 3-4 years and helped me through some extremely tough times that LCB and a few other barstool podcasts help me get through and move into more barstool content. Of all the podcasts my absolutely favorite personalities were Geoff, kenjac and Trill Ballins(who I put as my name and picture on Life360 with my family and I’ll never explain what it means or why I have a weird uncanny valley Jim Carrey stunt double from the mask as my profile picture). This means a lot too bc at the time I was listening to 3 podcasts religiously. LCB, Your mom’s house with Tom and Christina P and PMT. The pod meant and still means a lot to me and I have SO MANY great memories that are infused with this show. This created an emotional reaction when I woke up today and said “fuck it… I miss LCB” and popped onto to do a very much needed catch up and saw that the pod as i knew it ended around Christmas (CMON JEFF! Christmas!?) maybe back then it was like a present because I’m assuming, knowing Mr. Jeff, that this was probably coming for a little while. I listened to a few episodes of The Bracket before and I like it but still just craved the main Pod. I’m sure I’m just having fit of nostalgia ruining things for new stuff but I miss it. I want to do an even longer post mentioning all the highlights but I’m not that smart and can’t remember everything. I will forever remember having trill genuinely make me laugh out loud while I was cleaning classrooms and cleaning toilets at 4 am and quickly switching to SiriusXM to catch the Dozen because it would play at like 5a while I was living in Hawaii. Incredible memories. I remember hearing the boys talk about AMC and the Bavarian legend and finally trying them both about a month ago. The pretzel was good but I didn’t love the theatre as much as I like some of our local theaters here in Utah. I was bummed and took a break when trill left because It was like having a friend move away and forgot to get their phone number or add them on Facebook haha. Well, this was just to vent and hopefully one of the boys can see this and see this psychotic rant as an effort to show the deepest appreciation for everything and hope the pod can come back at some point when you guys are ready. If not, it is what it is and I love the other shows you guys do but this was just my favorite. I’m starting a rewatch today and won’t stop until my nostalgia fucks all the way off. Thanks for the laughs boys.
Edit: I wrote this at 5:30a on a Thursday, it reads like shit. trying to fix.

2024.05.16 06:10 ProfMoneyBags Pop-up decisions, premier versus Highwall
So I’ve narrowed it down to these two pop-ups- the Forest River Rockwood premiere or the Rockwood Highwall.
I like the features and the design and Both can hold my family so I’m hoping you all might be able to offer some considerations I hadn’t thought of. I briefly considered hybrids (KZ sportsman) because of the increase sleeping capacity, but decided they weren’t for me. I don’t care for the build quality sacrifices made to keep the weight under my towing limits.
We are a family of seven when we’re all together blended family of seven when we’re all together. Four year old, twins, a second grader and teenage daughters. Most of the time we’ll only be five or six and my oldest daughter Will hopefully go to college in three years so I’ll pop up suits us for a while. Towing with a Honda pilot with the 5K tow package.
The models and considering are used and in excellent condition with full working AC, both owners barely used them.
Premier pros:
Sleeps “8” Lighter Shorter (easier to see out the back) Two refrigerators $1-$2k less than the Highwall Crescent seating around a larger table, and is a a extra wide Twin XL (50 x80)
Owner is throwing in lots of extras, including a microwave Keurig television leveling jacks, various camping wares
Cons: Curtain wall shower toilet Indoor stove right next to the bed, small. Outdoor grill is very basic propane bbq grill. The bench seat that folds out isn’t a true twin- the back cushions sit higher than the bench, so likely won’t get slept on.
High Wall pros:
Man is it nice! Hard wall shower Dual sink Oven Integrated microwave Outdoor grill is a legit 3-burner stove + sink (basically the premier’s kitchen for outside. Less items to fold down when closing it up 1 larger 3-way fridge (I’m not sure if the premier is a 3-way. Owner installed trailer brakes.
Owner is likely, throwing in a few extra dishes, but nothing else is really needed.
HW cons:
Much heavier Much taller 7 feet with the AC Sleeps 6 (but we can squeeze everyone in based on current ages) $1-$2k more expensive Loss of seating in lieu of the appliances above Smaller crescent dinette - extra wide twin (50x72)
CON for both is a they are bit over my original intended max of 10k. But it’s likely I can talk the premier owner down closer to my original budget.
Appreciate y’all‘s opinions and insight for a 40 something dad rediscovering Glamping

2024.05.16 04:34 eyeballsdeep87 My 4 year old son only poops in his underwear.
My 4 year old is my second child. My oldest (girl) trained like a dream. She was just over 2, we merely suggested she use the toilet and that was it. She has barely ever had an accident and she has never once wet the bed. She made it all seem so easy. Oh how naive we were.
My son refused to sit on a potty or toilet (or even stand near one) until last August. He was 3 and going to be starting school and we were beginning to panic. He can be very stubborn and he would scream and cry if we even suggested it. Finally after finding a potty that he liked we convinced him to try and sit in it. He was pee trained only to one specific potty over the course of 3 weeks. I literally carried that potty around for a month to every park, zoo, and outing we went to. One week before school started we had to try and get him to use a toilet because kindergarten doesn't have red race car potties! After many, many battles we finally had a few successes. I should mentioned that he never once pooped on the potty, only pee. He was still popping in his underwear. We anxiously sent him to school. He proceeded to pee his pants daily and refused to use the toilet at kindergarten. After a few weeks the school emailed me to ask me to send him in a pull-up because he was peeing on their carpet. I felt so defeated and I regret my choice but I complied. This began a total regression. He refused to pee on the potty at home and after weeks of constant accidents he went back to pull-ups full time. Around Christmas I'd had enough I told him he was done with pull-ups at home (except bedtime) and that he needed to use the potty. He still wore pull-ups to school however. He actually to my surprise did great. He became completely pee trained at home. Not poop. He still pooped his pants daily, but never at school. He seems to be able to hold it and wait until he gets home. Anytime I mentioned wearing underwear to school he would scream and cry and since I work and I have my MIL get him off to school I couldn't burden her with dealing with his behavior. So for the time being he continued in pull-ups. Around March I told the school I wanted to get him out of pull-ups at school. The school suggest they give him candy as a reward and he did great. He was out of pull-ups at school and he had only a couple accidents since. However, the pooping is not improving. Every single day he comes home and poops his pants. Sometimes it's even before school. Sometimes its right when he gets home sometimes hours later. Never at school though. We've tried a surprise reward bin, sticker charts, food incentives, toys, scheduled bathroom times etc. We've tried getting him to help clean himself up with our help. I'm really good about keeping it neutral and just dealing with it. The clean up can be horrible, but there are times my husband can't hide his frustration and I don't think it helps.
I need advice. My husband thinks he needs to see a doctor. I've done that before and they just told me he needs incentives and we have all of that. Is this a medical issues?
Sometimes he says he hasn't pooped and he has, but he could be avoiding the cleaning up. Sometimes he tell he pooped so he can get cleaned up and be able to sit down and not make a mess. For instance if he's at home just relaxing he will hide that he's pooped but if we need to go out he'll say I pooped before he gets in the car seat, or before he lies down to sleep.
Could he just be that stubborn? He's not afraid of the toilet. He sits on it to pee and we clean him up on it. He does hide to poop and if we catch him we can sometimes get him there midway. And when we have we praise and reward him like crazy. But he will turn around and poop his pants 10 mins later. He doesn't seem to care at all. He's not embarrassed. It's baffling. He's a smart kid. I'm totally at a loss in the situation.

2024.05.16 03:12 boobooscoobydoo Internal hemorrhoids?? Anemia?! Clots?!
Hi guys! 27 year old female here. I have suffered from fissures and hems since 2017 when I was pregnant with my heavy baby boy. Fast forward to now, I’m still fighting them but it’s gotten worse. I have a appt coming up with a GI dr, but please someone tell me they’ve experienced this. Lots, lots of bleeding sometimes when pooping. Like I’m talking pooping bright red blood. Legit looks like a crime scene in the toilet bowl. Sometimes clots when you wipe. Little pain (I’m sure these are internal hems even tho I do have external too that are old and already popped before and don’t really bother me anymore… the pain with the external hems were horrible.) and my H&H is 9.9 and 30.4. I’ve never been anemic in my life until this flare up. I’m scared to death it’s something more dangerous other than hems. Please someone tell me if you’ve experienced something similar with hemorrhoids.

2024.05.16 01:58 scribble-muse RECAP: MEMBERS STREAM -- "come join our coffee chat ~ may 15, 2024!"
| oh, no, not another "coffee chat" 😐 this is looking like another stan interview-style live stream, so, expect ( and forgive ) the condensed bullet-points once it really gets underway. * me-from-the-future here -- this is all very disjointed and pointless, i'm doing my best to group the topics together, but what a mess, tbh. cw: brief mention of self-harm - ofc, she's running late, but she just popped up in chat to assure everyone that this circus will get going soon.
- ofc, she's muted once she gets going 😂 mean ol' OBS ruining her perfect plans.
- GREETINGS, STANS!
- looks like a lively crowd of 16 or so ppl for the stream! did someone mention neytan winning a membership? bc he's here with bells on.
- cynthia's sick, y'all 😢 she wants headpats for showing up, at all, and warns us that there will be gross face sounds happening today, and that we should probs skip this stream if we're not into it.
- time to admire her new, not-so-purple purple hair -- you'll be shocked to learn that she absolutely loves it and thinks it's fantastic!
- nose fingers are the new-old jazz hands.
- she's behind on vlogs, guys 😅 she's got 3 recorded, and has been editing all day. lots of yammering about which old vlog will be posted when 😴 today's vlog was recorded last thurs, so, get ready to get excited for some old ass incense of the day and other dated woo.
- stan mentions watching the stream from the hospital, cynthia fakes concern before going right back into comments about how sick other stans are feeling -- must be lots of passionate carnivores in the house today. cynthia's been sick for a month. allergies? a cold? who knows!
- foot stan tells her she's looking "fine today", cynthia's into it, nose fingers, foot stan wants her to shave half of her head for fashion, cynthia's not into that, she's trying to fiddle with the lighting bc she looks so washed out but managed to cut the cam twice, squeals with delight and claims to look "human again", has been drinking lots of lemon balm / chamomile tea, shows off purple-stained scalp, and says she's using the color every time she washes her hair now? sounds.. messy.
- finally back to the hospitalized stan, cynthia pretends to give af for 3 seconds before someone else brings up getting "natural dreads", inspiring her to wax nostalgic about her own waist-length dreads of yore, so many gross face sounds 😷 stan brings up sick baby, cynthia brings up sick cynthia 😑
- BIRTHDAY STORYTIME! spent the weekend with lodane, got home on sunday, spent all of monday alone, hiked in the north woods, played sims for hours, only did what she wanted to do -- so, like, pretty much like every other day she spends on earth? 😴
- won't post dreads pics bc she doesn't wanna reactivate her old FB acct to get them, haha, fooled us -- has one on her phone, actually, but doesn't enjoy scrolling through all of the mEmOrIeS to get it, starts scrolling 😂 yells at google for showing her mEmOrIeS 💀 yells at google for lying about this damn dreads pic, swears she showed someone the other day, but now, it's just not here, coughs up a diff pic with no dreads from 2008, goes into aimless story about her sister hacking them off after meeting her estranged husband, pulls up another old pic of her with a literal karen haircut and says, "wow, i really haven't aged that much, have i?" 😂
- "there wasn't, like, a such thing as karens, at the time."
- 🙄🙄🙄
- scrolling through old pics on the phone, listening to cynthia tell us much prettier she is now, she unironically loves a mullet as long as you're "the right kind of person", she's never had bangs bc she's "just not a bangs person", she's still not sure about more facial piercings, but she's very sure about those nose fingers as she says it, hasn't checked the disturbia site bc she can't afford to buy anything, but goes straight to the disturbia site lol i guess that's what we're doing now.
- she hates frozen yogurt, thinks it's just as unhealthy as ice cream, makes more gross face sounds, drinking something called community coffee in pecan / praline through a green, 12" metal straw, but she doesn't love it, a subscriber sent a new coffee sampler ( 🚨 not door county 🚨 ), she won't be recording new vlogs until fri, so, we'll have to wait, but ig we know what was in that big box, now.
- current "classic, timeless" favorite song is "oh comely" by neutral milk hotel 🙄 or "sweet thing" by van morrison, current fav song is "the summoning" by sleep token or "aqua regia" by sleep token ( guess ghost is out of rotation ), prefers great value hazelnut coffee to dunkin', will be doing some early-morning hiking videos soon, says she was into self-harm, "but probably not the kind you're talking about." 😐 "pretty much my whole life has been self harm."
- more gross face sounds, more songs she's never heard of, says she's used sex as self-harm, threatening to make another meatza very soon ( someone alert ZM ), says that the smell of dawn dishwashing detergent grossed her out the most when she was pregnant, and that's why she couldn't do the dishes 🤭 stan claims to have crocheted a wall hanging that says, "brew now!" and you can almost see the dollar signs dancing in our sweet, little pumpkin's eyes.
- sniff, stans sharing stuff that makes them barf, sniff, it's funny that stans should mention needing "brew now!" LPC merch bc she was telling a friend ( ? lodane? lol ) just the other day ( saturday? sunday? ) blah blah coffee mug blah 🙄 sniff, mean betty rubble titter, sniff, ipsy bag will arrive today, sniff, cough, sniff, clears throat, face suddenly flushed and she's fanning herself with a misc booklet of some sort, but won't remove her sweater ( looks a little like what my grandmother used to call a private summer, but what do grandmothers know? ), sniff, sniff, sniffffff!
- oh, we do have the occasional hot-flash every now and then, cynthia's problem is that she just works so GD hard, even while she's sick, the poor darling, stans are offering her free design work for the upcoming merch 🙄🙄🙄 she's very into that, more babbling about her extra special, ever so occasional hot flash, complains about the summer, and finally takes the sweater off lol very much looking forward to more swamp swimming sans UTIs, says she now has 175 members, 25,150 subs but thinks most of them are "old subscribers", and i just love a nice, round number, don't you?
- "i think a lot of 'em are people that subscribed to me, like, back when all the drama was going down in my life, and i don't know why they stay subscribed bc, obviously, they don't care when my life is good! but that's ok! i don't mind! stay subscribed!"
- aaaand she's complaining about the influx of subscribers she got a year ago, but not without her fingers up her nose, i'll have you know + so, so many gross face sounds, cynthia is still the happiest girl on planet earth, i am currently not 😶 more nose fingers, reading random stan comments, didn't actually play TS2 on her bday, just DLd mods, etc., definitely plans to stream "life by you", but needs to "watch the videos" bc she's "running out of time" 😐 best get those twitch subs ready, peasants 🤑 mama needs new disturbia clothes.
- neytan was the 23rd subscriber to LPC, awwwww, meant to make sims content this week, but probably won't bc so, so busy! + working against the flow of news and hype rather than with it is a cute quirk, not a cognitive flaw, claims to "love building" in TS4 🙄 but agrees that there are "no garages" lol spending this saturday with step dad for a co-birthday dinner celebration, trashes TS4, but remembers that she has a TS4 pleasantview out there that she should be streaming 💰 describes being too controlling to tolerate any open neighborhood play, stans are updating cynthia on all the life sim news she never really cares about, and neytan's making toe jokes now 🙄 if you can't beat the foot stan, might as well join him.
- video game chatter, anno 1602 AD on her old acer in 2000, a game about claiming continents for resources 😑 ofc, she loves it, wants to buy and play all these anno games, screeching about the SSs, wants to stream it, has been thinking of another stream night for other games, just games that she likes that no one else will care about lol sim theme park, nose fingers, rollercoaster tycoon 2, zoo tycoon 2, simcity 3000, simcity 2013, and simcity 4, now watching: the simcity 3000 vid 😴 face sounds.
- this is so boring, i could cry.
- she's not divorced yet, but she doesn't consider herself married -- "i'm separated forever!"
- listing the games she has on the EA app, declaring which games are better than others, snifff, slurp, smack, admits to not playing most of these games, just got 6 free mos of paramount+ through the phone co, but uses her bro's disney+ acct, still too good for tv ( except youtube ), tho, so, who cares? stans trying to force her to care about them and stories about their little kids, wants to get another PS1 + all her fav games = giving hoarder vibes.
- "there's so many things i want to collect! i just want it to look like it was, it never turned past 1999 in my house!"
- TAROT TIME! she'll bring a diff deck next week, shuffling 3 times while doing her dumbass "prayer", neytan wants a deck, calls out 4 stans by name for readings, foot stan's 1st, sure hope neytan can comport himself.
- foot stan wants a general reading: the sun, ace of wands, 7 of wands reversed = "the sun is shining on your wand! you're tired of defending your love for toes!"
- stan # 2 wants to know if starting a fam is the right path: 9 of cups, 8 of cups reversed, queen of wands reversed = "don't be so aimless... you'll get what you want."
- neytan wants a general reading: 3 of cups, page of wands, the fool = "i think something good's gonna happen on your birthday!"
- stan # 4 wants to know if they'll buy a house this year: death, the tower, 2 of cups = "that is a yes!" 😐
- "i'm just affirming dreams, that's right! that's what i do here! i do tend to read the cards very positively, but that's just my nature."
- stan # 5 wants to know if they should move forward into being the new them*: ace of pentacles, the magician, ace of swords + bonus 2 of cups = "i think that these, all together, are saying yes!"
- *cynthia can already tell stan # 5 that the answer to that is YES, but we're gonna pull some cards, anyway.
- she loves getting the magician card when she's manifesting bc she's an alchemist 💀
- most of these interpretations were read from her phone, so, thanks, chatGPT! 🥰
- IT'S FINALLY OVER! phones going off, not-a-professional-tarot-reader tarot disclaimer, definitely look those cards up on chatGPT for yourselves, every gross face sound you can possibly imagine, but she loves us! more tarot readings next week! join now!
- jazz hands!

2024.05.15 20:07 Therapyandfolklore "Im not Patty Smith"
Yes, you're not patti smith. She starved in a dingy, roach-infested hotel room that she paid for by selling her art for chump change. Allen Ginsberg bought her a sandwich one time cuz he thought she was a twink. You're dating a NFL player & fly in a private jet, if you had to spend a night in the Chelsea Hotel you would have a mental breakdown. Patty Smith had to use a bucket for a toilet, you probably have for ass wiped for you by servants. You're not a tortured poet, just because you're sad about a breakup, like 99% of people. Patty Smith yelled "Fuck George Bush!" in front of 10k people, you have an emotional netflix documentary about coming out as a liberal, and simply said gay people deserve decency. You are not a tortured poet you are a capitalist, the thing which most "tortured poets" actually despise and fight against. Real artists would make art even if nobody listened, you literally only wanted to be a pop star, it was never about the art. Your swifties hate any criticism of you, but art is fueled by criticism, they live in an echo chamber. You dont even make music, you write a few lines of lyrics and have your bff kiss your ass and make a generic synth "beat". You are basically the equivalent of a college frat alcoholic thinking he's a dj for making spotify playlists. You are not Patty Smith, but you think you're at that level, take her name out of your botox mouth

2024.05.15 19:14 Professional-Bid-575 Kindle Scribe disappointing
TL;DR:
- Good build quality, reading on a big screen is a delight.
- Writing experience is not on par with an iPad and Apple Pencil, even though the Amazon stylus feels nicer in the hand than the Apple Pencil.
- Writing output is not as polished as Apple Pencil.
- Lack of sync options with any service severely limits utility.
- Baffling software and hardware omissions like no page turn buttons when there is space for them, limited software options for hardware button on stylus.
- Too big and heavy to be convenient solely as an ereader.
- Amazon offers no protection or encryption for notes, makes note taking too insecure for anything significant.
- Big disappointment given that Amazon has the resources to make the Scribe the best e-ink notebook on the market.
I've been without an ereader for many years, mostly using my iPad, mainly because I haven't found anything that satisfactorily could replace my sadly lost Kindle Voyage. I was sick of reading on LCD and OLED screens, so I decided to bite the bullet and get an ereader. At first I was looking at the 6"-7" models but the Scribe reviews turned my head. I've seen many people here and elsewhere say it's the best Kindle they've ever owned and that they've ditched note taking on their iPad or in physical notebooks after getting the Scribe. I journal daily, write for work, and do creative writing as a hobby so I just had to try the Scribe.
Well, sadly, I have to say I am majorly disappointed. The device is extremely well built and fit and finish is top notch, so that's not an issue. The stylus feels good in the hand. The screen looks gorgeous, and reading books with larger text without having to turn pages nearly as often is a godsend. A+ on all of those aspects.
Then the negatives popped up quickly. I do a lot of writing in notebooks with fountain pens and I don't care what anyone says,
none of these devices come anywhere close to the tactile satisfaction of feeling the nib of a fountain pen on good paper and watching the ink appear on the page. So in that respect, the Scribe is no worse than any other digital writing device and better than several. But to me the iPad is still the gold standard of digital writing experiences. I like the Scribe stylus more than the Apple Pencil in the hand, but you can tell that Apple put an incredible amount of time and money making the writing experience on the iPad feel like the best in the world, and it is. The animations, the responsiveness, the ability to customize the output, how close each writing type looks to its analog counterpart, it's all unparalleled. The Scribe falls so short, it's not even close. The customization options feel paltry and the pencil for example looks like I'm writing with a Wooly Willy pad. I can excuse the lower responsiveness because it's an e-ink screen and the iPad has a 60-120hz LCD or OLED screen, but the overall experience of writing is several steps down.
Now, I would still consider taking those tradeoffs for the benefit of a no distractions device to write on, especially in conditions where pen and paper is not convenient. But this brings me to the biggest and most immediately deal breaking aspect of this device: I cannot find anything from Amazon about how notes and notebooks are secured, encrypted, and otherwise guaranteed to be seen only by me or people I chose to share access with. While Amazon is undeniably convenient, I do NOT trust them at all, and they don't address the security of notes at all that I can see. With Apple I can (and have) enable advanced protections on my account that end to end encrypts pretty much everything. So now I can't use the note taking aspect of the Scribe for work, or anything more personal than a shopping list. Couple this with the extreme limitation of what you can even do with notes as they don't sync to anything, you can't even write in the margins of 99% of ebooks, and the writing utility of the Scribe dwindles to virtually nothing for me.
So that leaves the Scribe's utility as a big ereader. Unfortunately this is heavy and while thin it's still a very big device. In the same way I can't as easily carry around and use my iPad the way I do my iPhone, the Scribe is not conducive to using in many of the places I would want to use an ereader, like in bed with my cat on my chest or, let's be blunt, on the toilet. The ever present expandable icon for adding sticky notes on ebooks is a perpetual distraction on a class of device that is all about eliminating distractions.
There are also baffling omissions in both the software and hardware. We've got the button on the stylus, and it can only be used to change between different modes. You'd think a perfect use for this would be to cycle between line thickness options, or choose the lasso selector, or undo with a single tap, redo with a double tap or long hold. There's a sticky note option for the button, an excellent idea, that appears to not work at all. The device has this big empty space on one side for holding the Scribe one handed and there's no hardware buttons for changing pages?? On a device this size, if you're already using that space to hold it one handed, it seems like a no brainer to put either full hardware buttons or touch inputs like the Voyage had where your hand already is to turn pages. Instead I now have to use my free hand to move a page forward.
I think the Scribe is a great idea, with great hardware, and middling to terrible execution. For the non-discounted price the Scribe goes for (thankfully I did not pay full price but I'll be returning nonetheless), plus the fact you have to pay extra for the good stylus, there is no excuse for such a poor user experience. And even if the user experience were A++, anyone privacy or security conscious still couldn't use the Scribe for any significant writing because Amazon has taken no steps to secure and protect our notes.

2024.05.14 22:40 ConfidentLeg7645 Japan (Honshu) 3 Week Spring Trip Report. A perfect trip (almost)!.
LONG POST WARNING Hello everyone,
My partner (24F) and I (25M) returned home from our 3-week Japan trip last week and due to us using this sub a lot during our planning I thought it would be helpful for other current planners to upload a trip report.
Our main interests are Japanese traditions and history, street style/culture, and food so keep reading if these interests are mutual. Read to the bottom to see how much we spent plus some tips and disappointments.
Prelude We were caught up in the madness at Dubai airport during our layover. Long story short; Airport (and the rest of Dubai) flooded and caused all the flights to be cancelled. What was meant to be a 5-hour layover turned into a torturous 36 hour wait. No staff to be seen, crowds of people arguing, fighting, and crying. We queued for 12 hours to get a new boarding pass for the next flight to Japan. We were meant to fly to Haneda but settled for Narita as we needed to get out of that place as soon as possible but still ended up missing our first day in Tokyo (should have had 5 days). We can’t complain too much as some of the people I spoke to on
emirates were in the airport for up to 5 days before getting a flight back to their departure destination. Oh, and our baggage was missing with us only receiving our checked in bags on day 19. Cheers Emirates.
Day 1 Arrived in Shinjuku around midnight. We went straight to Don Quiojte to buy some replacement cosmetics and clothes. The combination of no good-quality sleep for 48 hours and the stimulating nature of the store was very intense! We then started to walk back towards the hostel and passed a Ichiran, so dropped in for some 2am ramen. Not the best ramen I’ve ever had but was still very good for the price.
Steps: 21,643 (includes some airport steps)
Day 2 Woke up and ate the free breakfast at the hostel (this turned out to be a really good money saver for the whole trip as we are not huge eaters in the morning anyway, but it was good to get something light in us before a long day walking). We then walked through the Shinjuku Gyoen Garden – saw some late blooming cheery blossoms and overall, it was a really beautiful botanical garden.
The next stop was Meji Shrine and a walk through Yoyogi park. The shrine was cool to see, especially as it was our first one in Japan. Saw a middle-aged man wearing denim hotpants so short that his balls were hanging out?!?!
Walked to Shibuya to see the scramble. This was cool but also felt it was a bit underwhelming at ground level but the view from Shibuya station walkway was wicked. Lunch was at a conveyor belt sushi place on the top floor of this department store right next to the scramble. This would be higher than average quality sushi in Europe, so it blew our minds that it was available on the top floor of a department store and for so cheap.
Shimokitazawa – We picked up some bargains at 2
nd street and I treated myself some Japanese jeans from a small Demin shop called Bears. The guy in the shop was super helpful and friendly and even tailored the trousers to exactly my size.
In the evening, we first had a poke around Golden Gai and then headed towards Shibuya and stopped in a cool bar where the owner was mixing vinyl while he mixed your drinks (think it was called Q Bar).
We had previously bought tickets to a gig at Circus for one of my fav rappers who I’d been wanting to see for a while. Also really enjoyed seeing the local Japanese warm up acts. Stayed until 5am and then go the train straight to the Tsukiji outer fish market. Was there way too early and had to wait roughly an hour for thing to open. Went to chill by a bench for a bit and by the time we went back to the market it was rammed! Went to bed around 8:30am.
Steps: 32,159
Day 3 We woke up at 2:30pm, got ready, and headed to the Bunkyo civic centre for the free observation deck. We heard it wasn’t meant to be the best Tokyo skyline view but for a free attraction we thought it was very good! Jimbocho book town was also very cool to see. We had a peak into a couple adult movie/magazine stores where I don’t think the owner appreciated our presence as western tourists.
In the evening, we first went for Ramen at Motenashi Kuraki in Asakusa Bashi. Honestly probably the best Ramen I’ve had to date. I ordered the Black Pepper Shio special, and it blew my mind. Even though the staff didn’t speak English they were very accommodating for my partner who doesn’t eat meat (pescetarian but will brave a meaty broth).
We then had a stroll around Akihabara and played some dance mat games in the arcades before heading back for an earlyish night.
Steps: 28,680
Day 4 I couldn’t sleep so got up around 3am and did some admin stuff to try and get our bags back to us ASAP. Chatted to people in the hostel for a few hours.
We arrived at Senso-ji for around 8am. Wasn’t too busy at this time and the temple was impressive. Went for a coffee down the road and had a chill for about an hour before heading into Asakusa. Got admission to the Drum museum which was wicked. Only 400 yen each and had the whole place to ourselves to smack some big fucking drums and make as much noise as we wanted.
We then started to head towards Ueno but made a slight detour to Kappabashi Dougu street to peruse the Japanese chef knives and other cookware. Grabbed lunch from a 7/11 and went and sat in Ueno park which was super busy. There was some food market event on which loads of food stalls had set up. There was also a stage with some J-pop performers and people dressed as ninjas dancing in the crowd. Weird to say the least. By mid-afternoon we were pretty tired so headed back to the hostel for a nap.
In the evening, we headed down to Harajuku and stopped by Big Love records. My partner is really into vinyl, so this was definitely a highlight for her. She picked up Wu Tang 36 chambers in case you were wondering. We then went for food at Afuri as my partner wanted to try the Vegan ramen to which she said it was ok but nothing special. My cold dipping noodle dish was very tasty, however. We then stumbled across this vinyl listening bar called Bar Music on the 5
th floor of this pokey building on the outskirts of Shibuya for a few drinks before bed. There was such a good vibe in there and the cocktails were super good for the price. If you’re looking for a romantic spot, then this is the place to go.
Steps: 31,818
Day 5 Today we headed to Kyoto on the shinkansen around midday after a slow morning chilling in and around the hostel and catching up on some sleep. Checked in to the hostel and had a walk around downtown Kyoto, stopping at 2
nd Street to buy some more clothes.
In the evening, we headed to Kodai-Ji to see the shrine lit up at night. We couldn’t believe how few people were there as it was stunning and truly magical place to be at night. It also has a bamboo grove (much better than Arashiyama, see below). The bar for Kyoto shrines/temples had been set very high.
Walked down Pontocho alley and stopped at a yakitori restaurant which was just ok. We knew it was going to be average when we looked around the restaurant and it was just western tourists dining.
Steps: 25,255
Day 6 First thing in the morning we rented bikes and cycled across the city to Arashiyama. Parked the bikes at the train station and walked up through Arashiyama. We were expecting it to be busy but there were so many people it was almost impossible to move. Had a look around the bamboo grove and was slightly underwhelmed after our visit to Kodai-Ji so we took the tram and then bus up to Kosan-Ji. This was very much worth the 45-minute journey as there was only one other group there and the temple nestled between the trees overlooking the river was breath-taking. On the whole, Arashiyama was way too packed during peak times to enjoy and with everything else Kyoto has to offer we wouldn’t say it was a must see.
We then picked up the bikes from the train station and cycled back across Kyoto taking the long route to explore and get lost. Once we dropped off the bikes, we went for another explore and this time went into WeGo for more clothes shopping. At this point we’d pretty much matched the amount of clothing that we had packed in our checked-in luggage that was still stuck in Dubai.
After a nap we walked towards the metro and stopped at a Katsu restaurant as we wanted to try something different, and it was pretty good. For the price of 1300 yen each we got so much food/sake and left stuffed.
Fushimi Inari in the evening. Like Kodai-Ji, we would recommend visiting Fushimi Inari at night. Firstly, to help avoid the crowds (we got there around 9pm and there was hardly anybody there) and secondly as seeing it lit up at night is a nice change. It was however slightly creepy at night, especially as it was lightly raining. My partner started to get a bit scared once we saw the signs to be careful of the wild boar and monkeys haha. We didn’t make it to the top of Mt Inari as the rain started to get heavy but still very much enjoyed walking through the hundreds of tori gates, stopping off at the shrines and soaking up the history.
Steps: 23,686
Day 7 Today was a late start as even after 8 hours sleep the 25k plus steps a day was starting to catch up with us.
We took the metro to Shimogamo Shrine in north Kyoto. It was very peaceful and quiet however temple fatigue had definitely set in at this point. We then walked through Kyoto to the beginning of Philosophers path. We had seen on this sub that people recommend skipping it unless its Sakura season however we disagree. The path along the river is so pretty and atmospheric, along with the fish gently swimming along in the river.
Kyoto Hand Crafts Centre – if you have the money then this is a great place to pick up souvenirs.
Pre-booked Sushi Iwa for a 15 course Omakase. The food was amazing, but it came to an eye watering 28k yen each. The difference for our western palettes between mid-range sushi and exceptional sushi is negligible. Nonetheless it was a good experience and I’m glad that we did it.
Steps: 23,751
Day 8 Today was an empty day in terms of things we wanted to do, so used it to walk the city and explore.
We checked out the Nishiki market and ate various fried foods on sticks which were all pretty tasty. We then walked northwards, stopping for coffee before reaching the imperial palace. By this point we were very much bored of temples and structures of similar architecture, but we actually ended up enjoying walking the palace grounds and seeing the buildings more than we thought and would recommend it to those who find themselves in north Kyoto.
A leisurely walk back down towards downtown Kyoto, stopping off at a wicked standing soba joint. Forgotten the name but their curry soba was delicious.
Chao Chao gyozas (only veggie gyoza place we could find) for our evening meal before a night cap at the bar across the road before bed.
Steps: 23,304
Day 9 Shinkansen to Hiroshima arriving around 11am.
Checked into hostel and then went straight to the A-dome, peace memorial and museum. We thought the museum was very moving and captured the horror of the events that unfolded very well. A must see for sure.
Okonomiyaki at Okonomimura and then some vintage clothes shopping in Hondori.
Went back out for food in the evening and ended up getting Okonomiyaki again. This time it we enjoyed it a lot more than we did at lunch (probably because we got it covered in cheese). There are a few streets by Hiroshima station with lots of bars and restaurants on top of each other, much like Golden Gai in Shinjuku, however they are not super touristy and has a more laid-back feel to them.
We then went to some bars in the city centre. The best one we stumbled across was called Tropical Bar Revolucion. It was on the 8
th floor and the smoking balcony overlooked the city. Plus, the beers in there tasted so good and I’m not sure why.
Steps: 23,299
Day 10 A hungover morning. Headed to the Hiroshima National Gardens. Going to some gardens is my go-to hangover activity as its low effort, relaxing, and feels productive. These gardens in particular were great and we really appreciated the signs explaining the history behind the space. Overall, we enjoyed this more than the national gardens in Shinjuku.
Public baths near Dobashi in the afternoon. If you’re feeling brave enough to get your kit off in front of 10s of strangers, then this is a good experience. Male and female baths are separate. Can’t go wrong for 400 yen.
Went for a drink at Bar Pretty and then realised the effect of golden week on trying to get a table walking into a restaurant. Walked around for about an hour with no success so settled for food from a department store food court. Sounds miserable but the food was pretty good for the price, and it was busy in there, so it still had an atmosphere.
Steps: 29,487
Day 11 Miyajima Day. Took the ferry to the island arriving at 10:30am. The Ryokan staff met us at the port and collected our bags to take back to the hotel.
Had a mooch around the port area before doing the hike up Mt Misen. The climb to the top on a hot day is not to be underestimated. Sweating buckets, but the route and the view from the top was amazing and one of the standout highlights of the whole trip.
After descending Mt Misen, we bought some beers, oysters and, ice cream and sat along the beach wall and chilled in the sun for a couple hours. The hotel staff then picked us up from the ferry terminal, we checked in and went straight to the Onsen for a couple hours before dinner. Dinner was a traditional kaiseki meal (with more courses than I can remember) served in the banquet hall with the other guests.
While the staff converted our retro ryokan room and set up the futons we had a few more beers before bed.
Steps: 20,803
Day 12 Today we had a chilled morning on the island, having a stroll and stopping for some coffees. We then took the ferry back to Hiroshima, stopping for Okonomiyaki one more time, before taking the shinkansen to Osaka.
Checked into our hostel near Namba and went out for a walk around 8pm. When looking for somewhere to eat we walked past a sign for a vegetarian Indian restaurant called Shama. After nearly two weeks of pure Japanese food we were craving some variety so decided to head in. Located on the basement floor of a particularly run down looking building the restaurant was not the most glamorous. Barely enough space for 10 people, it was hot in there. A constant stream of people was coming in and out of the restaurant and we were lucky enough to walk in when there were two spaces available. From sitting down at the table to receiving our food we waited just under an hour. This would be enough to put most people off but fuck me the food was good when it did finally arrive. We got a selection of 4 different curries, naan breads and samosa. We left stuffed. If you’re in the area this is definitely a place worth checking out.
Steps: 25,502
Day 13 Our first stop of the day was the Umeda Sky Building. Not suitable if you are scared of heights as the glass elevator made our stomachs drop slightly. The views were impressive but we thought the price was a bit steep at 1500 yen each.
We then spent the afternoon wondering about near Namba and Shinsujibashi dropping into shops and picking up some food.
For dinner we made a reservation for a Mexican restaurant near Dotonbori. Massive margheritas, nachos and enchiladas. The food was great, and it shows by how busy the place was still at 10pm. It had been open since the late 70’s with the décor to match and it had a great atmosphere.
Steps: 27,290
Day 14 Checked out Tsuruhashi and Korea Town. Loved the market – dimly lit maze of numerous food and clothing vendors. Stopped to have some Korean stew and pancakes and it was delicious. One of the best meals of the trip.
Shinsekai in the evening. What I can describe as the armpit of Osaka. We loved it. Dirty? Yes. Rowdy? Yes. Rough around the edges with a red light district to top it all off. We had Kushikatsu to finish the evening off. Fried stuff on a stick – of course it going to be tasty but it wasn’t exactly flavour town.
Steps: 23,777
Day 15 Took the train to Minoh and hiked up the trail to see the waterfall. Hike was easy in comparison to Mt Misen and the waterfall was very cool to see. Had a wonder around Minoh stopping for some lunch at a Ramen bar.
We went to the Team lab botanical gardens in the evening. It was very awe inspiring seeing all the installations lit up.
After sampling Japanese McDonalds (I had a burger where the buns were made out of rice) we went for some drinks at Zerro. We liked this bar a lot, the guys working there were very friendly and it had a good vibe.
We then sat and watched the skaters at triangle park with some beers from the konbini before going to see Dj Masda at Circus until around 4am. This area of Osaka was such a vibe and came back here a few times over our 6 days here. Overall, a very fun evening.
Steps: 26,130
Day 16 Woke up chronically hungover but powered on and went to see a baseball game. You’re allowed to bring food and drink into the stadium (as long as alcohol is in plastic/paper cups) so we grabbed some beers and snacks from family mart. We had no idea what was happening but the atmosphere was electric and we enjoyed getting pissed and cheering.
Had a nap and then went to Hafez for middle eastern food. The food was good but not amazing, nothing in comparison to my local middle eastern restaurant back home. Chilled around the Namba park/Big step area. Loved this area so much, we are big into street fashion and culture so this place really ticked some boxes. Lots of skaters and street wear stores concentrated around here. Got an early night watching Battle Royale back at the hostel.
Steps: 22,065
Day 17 Today we went to the Umeda area. Popped into some shopping centres and had Omurice for lunch. It was tasty but not something I will crave when back home. Good experience trying it though. We then walked through Yodoyobashi along the rivers and got gelato and sat in the rose garden. The sun was beating down and we enjoyed just chilling in the sun eating our ice cream.
Compufunk Records were holding a party in their store. Decent gaff with some very welcoming and kind people to party with until the early hours.
Steps: 21,267
Day 18 We reluctantly left Osaka for Hakone today. Very sad to go but onwards to the next adventure. Took the shinkansen to Odawara and then the Hakone Tozan Train to Gora. Checked into our Ryokan and relaxed in the Onsen for a few hours.
Went for a walk around Gora and had dinner at the Ryokan before watching Predator in bed.
Steps: 16,926
Day 19 Today we did the Hakone Loop, starting early in Gora.
Started with the Open-air museum and it was great. We loved the installation and ended up spending 3 hours slowly making our way round. Got some cool photos as well for the gram.
Ropeway to Lake Ashi. This was absolutely terrifying. You have to swap cable cars 3 times on the way over and the warnings of the service being suspended due to the wind was announced at each stop. I’m not going to ruin the surprise, but one section made me literally freeze in terror due to the winds outside so try to do it on a calm weather day.
We then took the pirate boat (bit underwhelming) across the Lake and stopped for some soba noodles and a wander around. Unfortunately it was way too cloudy to even get a chance at seeing Mt Fuji.
Train to Kamakura and checked into our super cute traditional hostel near the beach.
Dinner at an Izakaya from the hostel owners recommendation. Food great and beers slipped down a treat. First time I tried Yuzu Kosho as well – I’m now addicted to the stuff and literally cover all my food with it.
Steps: 19,512
Day 20 A slow start to the morning. Weather was pretty bad but we still managed to hit all the main sights in Kamakura. Big Buddha was a refreshing sight from the temples. Did some shopping up Komachi Dori. Highlight of the day was Hukokaji temple. It was so peaceful and zen in the rain with its very own matcha tea ceremony backdropped by bamboo forest. This turned out to be our second favourite temple/shrine we visited, just being beaten by Kodaji.
In the evening we went for Sushi at a conveyor belt place. Figured this would probably be my last Japanese sushi of the trip so devoured 7000 yen worth of sushi and beer. Went back to the hostel and invited some of the other guests to drink with us. The owner of the hostel had some bayberry homebrew, so we got stuck into that.
Steps: 20,494
Day 21 Enoshima Island is just a 25 min train from Kamakura. Started off the day by walking to the top of the island to get French toast and a beer with a lovely view across the bay. We then headed up the Sea candle to check out the observation deck, still the illusive Mt Fuji hides behind the clouds.
We then bought admission to the caves beneath the island which was pretty cool. I won’t ruin the surprise but there’s something waiting for you at the end of one of the caves.
Had an explore around the rockpools near the caves and took some cool photos. We then had a pizza with fish on which was pretty crazy. Walked around the island a little bit more and I picked up some more Japanese denim which wasn’t the cheapest but the quality of the trousers are great and will last me a lifetime.
Back to Tokyo in the evening.
Went for Izakaya around Asakusa and popped into a couple bars. One was called Not Suspicious and the whole bar was covered in handwritten notes by patrons. Very touristy but quite cool at the same time. Our favourite was a drawing of Mario saying It’s a Me Muthafucka.
Steps: 25,903
Day 22 First stop was Don Quiojte to pick up some Yuzu Kosho (if you know you know) and weird flavoured KitKats.
Kappabashi Dougu street to purchase a fine Japanese carbon stell Santoku. Honestly in love with this knife so much. The people at the store were very happy to hear exactly what I was looking for and even let me try before you buy on some daikon radish.
While in Asakusa I had to return to the place where I put the best thing in my mouth in Japan. Motenashi Kuroki. Switched it up this time and had their classic Shio ramen plus the duck rice as a side. Honestly this place is amazing, and you have to go there if you have time. They aren’t veggie/pescy friendly so my partner went for one last round of sushi round the corner. We met up at a massage chair parlour and spent 30 mins relaxing in the chairs.
We had a bright idea to watch the sunset one last time so headed over to the rooftop park on a department store in Shibuya. Sipping on an ice cold Kirin, the sun slowly dropped behind the distant mountains and we knew our trip had come to an end. How symbolic.
Flight at 11pm from Haneda.
Steps: 23,187
On reflection: I honestly think this trip was almost perfect in terms of hitting our interests and travel style. There was a good balance of doing the typical first time visit to Japan sights and activities while still exploring and seeing what we came across in the moment.
It hard to pinpoint exact highlights of the trip as everywhere we visited had so much going for it in different ways. We loved the rugged and trendy vibe to Osaka, and I think this would be the city I would most want to live in for a considerable amount of time (If I had to choose). Miyajima was also stunning and a great overnight trip with the Ryokan experience. We also underestimated how much we would enjoy Kamakura with its laid-back surfer vibe and access to Enoshima Island.
One random memorable moment that has stuck with me was when we landed at Narita airport, we took the limo bus to Shinjuku. As the driver pulled away, all the staff at the station turned and bowed in unison. It felt so special to first observe a culture totally opposite to the one I grew up with and was at this point I knew I had embarked on the trip of a lifetime.
If I could go back and change something I would probably miss out Hakone and do an extra day in one of the major cities. This isn’t because we didn’t enjoy Hakone, but we feel like it’s a place that needs more time to soak in what’s going on around you (plus the weather was bad when we were there). This being said the Open-Air Museum was amazing and we enjoyed it more than the Teamlab botanical gardens so the trip up the mountains was worth it just for that.
So, how much did we spend per person (not inc flights)? Accommodation - £765pp Given that we spent a couple nights in Ryokans raising the average price slightly, we were pretty happy with the accommodation costs. We stayed in a mix of private room and shared dorm hostels and pretty much all of them were spot on. Travelling as a couple meant that anywhere with a private room split the price between 2. The only hostel we didn’t like was the one in Hiroshima, there wasn’t anything in particularly wrong with it, there was just a really bad vibe from the owner and other guests.
Transport - £344pp This includes shinkansen to and from all the major cities as well as our suica top ups for metros and buses. Unless your itinerary is something like 3 days Tokyo, 2 days Osaka 2 days Kyoto then there really isn’t any point getting the JR pass now that the price has increased.
Activities – £280pp It is hard to give an exact amount for activities and food as 1) I didn’t track what we spent our cash on and 2) my partner and I would take in turns paying for things like temple admission. That being said I’ve allocated 25% of the cash we spent to activities such as temple admission. Activities includes our baseball tickets plus club entries as well as temple and museum admissions etc.
Food – £962pp As above, its hard to give an exact amount for food. On the whole we tried to eat cheap with possible, especially at the start of our trip. There were a few expensive meals peppered in plus we ate out twice a day towards the end of our trip as we realised we were under budget.
The total is a bit skewed as this includes all the alcohol we bought in bars as well as the konbini trips for beers and cigarettes. I estimate that booze accounts for around a third of the total per person. If you would like to do Japan on a budget, reducing the booze will make a big difference.
Shopping/Souvenirs/Gifts – £607 (just me) We went hard with the shopping. We didn’t actually receive our checked in luggage until day 19 so we had to buy all new clothes and cosmetics. If this wasn’t the case, then I don’t think I would have spent so much (airline is comping us for the additional clothing bought anyway). I also bought a fairly expensive chef knife and Japanese denim pieces, plus lots of gifts for friends and family. Obviously, this number could theoretically 0 if you are on a serious budget and did no shopping but I really underestimated Japanese shopping, especially thrifting. Also, given our cheap choices when it came to accommodation we could afford to splurge. However just to note my partner spent less than half than I did on shopping.
Total: £2958 (582,628 yen at time of writing) I kept within my budget of £3000. I definitely got a bit frivolous with the cash in the last few days or so, if being as careful as I was towards the start of the trip, I think the total would be closer to £2500.
Disappointments Takoyaki. We thought it was going to be all about the octopus but were disappointed with our balls of sloppy goo surrounding tiny chewy pieces of octopus. We tried it twice and couldn’t get behind it. Sorry Takoyaki fans.
Arashiyama. Way too busy, especially around the main station and bamboo grove. If it’s the bamboo you are going to see, then Kodaji is a much better spot.
Dotonburi. Albeit we were there in golden week, and it was pretty busy. However, I get the feeling this area has fallen to the past its golden days title and has become a bit of a cash cow for places selling spiralised potatoes on a stick. The area around Namba park was a better option for us.
Tips Konbini. Absolute life saver for snacks and drinks on the go. The food quality for a convenience store is higher than most other countries so we had no problem with grabbing a meal from one to help keep within our budget.
Don’t over pack – even though we didn’t get our checked in bags, I still packed light so had plenty of space to bring stuff back. Emirates give you your allowance by weight rather than number of baggage so we could check in additional bags on the way back.
Don’t be scared of hostels. If you don’t want to brave the shared dorms, then most hostels offer private rooms with just the shower and toilet shared. Obviously, it’s cheaper if there are two people sharing a room.
Don’t stress about cash. Most places take debit/credit card and if they don’t, you’re never more than 5 minutes from a konbini ATM.
For us, golden week didn’t seem that big of an issue. No problems booking shinkansen around GW. We spent most of GW in Osaka, as such it was going to be busy anyway so maybe we didn’t see much of a difference from normal numbers in the spring.

2024.05.14 22:31 PhilosopherExtreme91 Rubber band Ligation treatment
Hey Guys , I just want to share how my 1st rubber band ligation went @ Kaiser’s GI specialist. For anyone curious or looking for some more info.
(Background ) I’m 26 years old . I’ve had internal/external hemorrhoids for about 10 years! and it’s only gotten worse over the years so I needed to take care of it. I’ve always been very active and in good health but for some reason I’ve been haunted by these hemorrhoids and they have never gone away . I’ve had colonoscopies, Doctors have always stuck their fingers up my ass and gave me ointment but everything was for temporary help. Every Bowel Movement I have , my hemorrhoids stick out and I have to push it back in after I’m done on the toilet (highly recommend this , you feel way more comfortable after. Use Vaseline and a glove if you have one.) BUY A BIDET AS WELL! I even use a portable bidet at work.
(Procedure day ) So anyways, I was scheduled for a Rubber band ligation a couple weeks ago . I’ve always hated appointments for hemorrhoids, I’m sick of getting fingers up my ass just to remind me I do have hemorrhoids and getting ointments, there’s even been times I couldn’t relax and Dr had to send me for a colonoscopy because she couldn’t stick a finger up there all the way to check (CAN YOU BLAME ME?). But this time I told myself I needed to man up and just relax to get this over with. (I smoked weed before the appt. for my nerves )
The night before, I needed to purchase 2 fleet enemas. One for @9pm and another for 1 hour before my appointment which was @10. Walgreens has them for $1 each. When I got to the appointment I had to prepare for the Anoscopy and rubber band . They pretty much just make you bend over the bed and insert a 3 inch thin tube into your anal to see the inside and which internal hemorrhoids they can rubber band (external cannot be rubber band). Now remember, I HATE having fingers and things up my ass and it’s been hard in the past appts. but I just made sure to relax, took deep breaths and took my mind off the situation. It actually wasn’t that bad and was tolerable . It took about 5-8 minutes and the DR told me I had about 4 internal he was able to see and reach for the rubber bands . I did 2 rubber bands , he pretty much used this vacuum like object to suck in the hemorrhoid so the rubber band can be shot on . So you feel air being sucked out your asshole then a lil rubber band just popping on there . After the 2nd one he asked If I wanted to do another or just wait and told me whatever pressure I feel now is what I’ll feel like until they come off so I stuck with 2. Nothing hurt , you just feel pressure and a rubber band in your ass because the hemorrhoids are irritated from the procedure .
(After the procedure)
The first 4 hours kinda suck, I would recommend to take the day off. You just feel uncomfortable and the hemorrhoid is irritated so it’s hard to feel relaxed and comfortable. Take TYLENOL. The rest of the day was okay but you definitely feel something there. All of this is tolerable tho and you shouldn’t be in Pain at all so don’t worry.
Day 2, in the evening you don’t feel anything at all! Feels back to normal and you only feel a little uncomfortable when you Poop. Do not strain or push and take softeners if you feel you need to.
Day 11 ( this experience was not common so don’t let it worry you)
So 11 days have passed by and I haven’t seen any rubber bands in my toilet after BM’s.(which should happen when they fall off) But my poops are way more comfortable and I haven’t seen blood on the toilet paper since day 3. However, Day 11 @1pm I feel the need to poop while at work so I’m holding it and as I’m walking to the bathroom , I feel like I shit myself so I run to the toilet and as soon as I sit down blood and blood clots just start pouring out my ass like diarrhea FOR 2 HOURS. Everytime I stand up thinking I’m done, I have to sit down immediately to bleed more . I finally get up at 3pm feeling dizzy and lightheaded and was recommended to visit the ER. I did not bleed anymore after and the Doctors told me this was normal for some patients after the procedure and too not worry. It was wild to think that was normal but some people like myself just recover more severely then others.
It’s now 3 weeks after and I feel fine. I still suffer with 2 other hemorrhoids that pop out but I haven’t bled and they definitely don’t bother me as much as before. I always push mine back in because I’m very insecure about smelling or feeling uncomfortable . I’m not sure if I’d do it again because of my experience but i do feel better and everyone recovers differently! I do not regret it at all! GET HELP FUCK HEMORRHOIDS AND YOU ARENT THE ONLY ONE SUFFERING!! Good luck

2024.05.14 20:18 DefiantPersonality87 Why Would YouTube Stubbornly Refuse to Pull a Video to a Viewer?
I've been experimenting with incognito/private browsing to see what happens if a user with no watch history watches my videos. I want to try to lead the algorithm to promote my latest video to this pretend user to see what it takes. If you can explain these results you're a genius or a youTube employee:
Very briefly:
- I find one of my videos via search
- Click it, watch it through the whole way, check the 'suggested' video list
- Observe multiple videos of mine popping up but not this one - click another of mine, watch it through
- Observe more videos of mine - mostly recent or popular - still no sign of the latest one..
- Latest is in a series called "Bully Takedown.." so only click other vids in that series as they appear on the suggested list YT pops up with at least 4 or 5 of the other ones). Watch them all the way through... still nothing.
The latest video has CTR of 20% and AVD of 85%... top source of its views are the Channel Pages. But YT will not promote it to anyone new via the suggested videos panel...
As above - I've clicked on as a random viewer, I've watched video after video of mine in the suggested panel (where this new video should be showing up); I've watched video after video of mine from the same SERIES (it shares a playlist with the other "Bully Takedown" vids...... ) and still the latest one with the crazy stats will not appear in the suggested panel, no matter how much I watch my own similar stuff YT will not pull that one into there. So this is getting zero new audience, it will never see the light of day because YT will not even test it.
Anyone got an answer to that riddle? Try it for yourself if you like, channel link in the bio. You can get every other video from the Bully Takedown series to appear on the suggested panel but the one that had CTR 20% and AVD 85% is the one YT refuses to pull into there.
What's going on?
*edit (sorry my stats were slightly off, adjusted!)

2024.05.14 17:56 Smyksta67 1 week dpo what I needed and what I used.
I am an over prepared type of person, so here is what I liked and loved and what needed right away/what not.
Didn’t need any of my tape, wound cleaners, or anything but prescribed meds week 1. But that is all about how your doctor wraps you in and what they allow.
Mine had me in a side zip bodysuit and taped foam/gauze cover, day 3 and day 7 changing dressing there and seeing if can get drain out soon.
Wish I had - rail on side of bed/ rope/ladder to readjust ease get up - rinse less shower substitute wipes, options for if shower delayed by doctor - tens unit/ massage for back and neck that hurts as you get posture back
Loved - bed wedges - good pillows, sheets and set up spare room Brought in ca appointments also to help sitting and bracing - protein sub food options - 2 stools for getting in and out of suv - stool softener, still was 3 days - water bottle with straw - lift recliner, heat and vibration can help with the back pain the hunch give you. - boob strap to help with drop and fluff some doctors garments have this built in or they provide - athletic pants but on loose end slightly - layers like zip up light jacket, open sweaters can use also like arm/chest blanket -heating pad, ice packs - small wash cloths /towels for sponge bath style wiping
Good but not needed - Stool with handle to make getting in bed easier - spare surgery bra/high rise underwear, compression wrap so can put on when wash bodysuit - gripper with handle, don’t need to heal but good if helps avoid overstretch or allows picking up toys when needed - 1 toilet riser nice for first 4 days - showetub chair, not sure if will love later for now could have used any plastic/folding chair for sponge bath
Just in case, future - got core compression wrap Velcro very aggressive and hard to get get tight and flat if smaller waist than hip, better if simpler closure and easy way to tighten - paper tape and silicone gel, for healing after wound closed, better cause breathable vs silicone tape per my surgeon - steri strips, gauze/foam that won’t stick to wound, hydrocolloid patches - emergency suture kit, essentially tape/ zip tie set up to hold tension if wound reopened - kt tape - mid to low compression suits/ underwear cheapest tj max. - zip up sports bras - wound cleansing spray, antibacterial ointment, Vaseline
—————
Great pillows and bought covers for them and bed in case leaked. Surprisingly no leaking week 1 as well covered wounds. Link below for these amazing pilllows and can remove as much filler to make pillow as full or flat as you like which is great for propping up/back support.

Hard to roll over and get up and not use abs. Best if have strong helper first 4days but it’s nice to be able to get up or readjust when you want. In hindsight I’d say something can grip to use arms help partially up is key. I end up locking one arm under a knee and grabbing side of bed/sheets to avoid engaging core or pecs too much.

2024.05.14 09:12 BestSlowbroEU Hoping for help and opinions comparing Farsight to Commanders when leading Starscythes ..
Please bear in mind that these thoughts really only apply to RetCa Starscythe units, I just can't really explain that in a title!
This is because I think the comparison might be a bit more complicated than most people seem to realise due to the fact Farsight can use 'The Arro'kon Protocol' on his unit every turn, for free. To save you looking it up in case you can't remember;
"Until the end of the [shooting] phase, each time a model in your [battlesuit] unit makes an attack that targets an enemy unit that contains 6 or more models, that attack has the [SUSTAINED HITS 1] ability. If that attack targets an enemy unit that contains 11 or more models, it has the [SUSTAINED HITS 2] ability instead."
Alright, cool. Weirdly, my first thought wasn't Starscythes but in fact Fireknives because they like firing into big, healthy units and they get rerolls so you're gonna hit a lot of shots pretty reliably. Seemed to make sense but after some pondering I decided that too much of the appeal of Fireknives is their 'mid-strength weapon' versatility. They can play a bit of the resource management efficiency game with the 30" range and rerolls but if the moment calls for it, you can zip up into Bonded Heroes range and lay down some slightly higher than expected damage. Or fire up the Starflare Ignition System and peace out to the backline to cause trouble. To me that sounds a lot more fun and probably actually better than fishing for 6s while Farsight spends his time popping his stratagem repeatedly, waving his sword around a bit and turn by turn, slowly losing his erection.
Ok but Farsight of course enjoys his time amongst the new frontlining Starscythes so the original point of this post was to think about whether a 235pt burst cannon unit pumping out 24 S6AP-2 sus2 +1 to wound, rerolling all the 1s can compare to what the commanders offer. I'll exclude drones because I have to because I'm not that smart.
Assuming S. Suits are helping I think you average about 27 hits and you're gonna be wounding anything up to T5 on 2s, rerolling the 1s. Ok. Seems pretty good to me. Asking kindly for a 10man+leader unit to take 25 AP-2 saves sounds like something I'd enjoy. Good chance they fail 16 and they don't like it. And it's still 15-16 wounds on a 6man T6 unit which at AP-2 will often mean 3 dead chunky 3W models and sometimes 4.
Ok now imagine a (260pts) Coldstar-led team zooming across the battlefield to get within 6", dropping a few mortals on a few heads on the way over. It's nice to think about. I'm just gonna go with flamers because I think the overwatch threat is substantial enough when you're up close to justify them so 9 flamers is gonna be 31ish hits with S5 AP-2. If you're rich enough in observer units to guide with S. Suits you might earn an extra 3 wounds here vs T3/4 but for me part of the appeal of the flamers is that you can put a marker drone on the Shas'vre/Commander and spot during the turns you're usually wishing you didn't have to engage all of your spotters in frantic, sacrificial move blocking.
So with the Coldstar it's roughly 20-23 wounds vs T3/4, 15-17 vs T5 at AP-2 and that's excluding the HOBC completely. Already pretty decent but we must also try to weigh this units high independence, overwatch threat, mobility, and ability to dish out mortal wounds (and no I haven't forgotten about the fabled Farsight tank shock but to be honest I don't have much of an idea about how good it is in actuality this edition so I just sort of feel unable to add this in to the equation. That's on me.).
The damage would be slightly less on an Enforcer but then of course you get to save points and you get his lovely durABILITY. And does it even matter that you can't zoom when you can use the tiny blade to get 3" inside of them? Does anyone else just picture a 3" inch knife when you think of 'The Shortened Blade' because of your inability to not think about the rules for a moment? Because I can't not picture a 3" inch blade and it irritates me because it looks pathetic in my mind's eye. Now is the time to speak up if you share my pain. But anyway the Enforcer just seems very delicious in this type of plan given that we have amazing access to the deep and important areas of the board. You know .. Could it just be that worsening incoming AP on a unit that really needs to be killed is just really fucking good when the nearby enemy infantry can't move a muscle without getting completely cooked? I really would implore anyone who doesn't think this codex is strong or fun to keep reading and stay curious.
If anyone has any insights or thoughts I'd sincerely like to hear them as I feel that a lot of this conversation thus far has come down to more guns is better. Something which is admittedly true for us most of the time. Hopefully no matter what you think you can see this is a pretty good example of nice internal balance. Perhaps Firesight can't match up to the Commanders on the top, top level of the game (but perhaps he can?!) but I think clearly his access to free Arro'kon Protocols make him a real punchy threat on top of what is already a cool looking, versatile-ish, 8W 2+/4++ utility leader.
To the one Shas'O that read the whole thing, thanks, but get back to work. Your boss has noted this is your third extended toilet break of the morning and he is on the brink of offering you unsolicited dietary advice.

2024.05.14 08:00 Grade-Long Invited to post this here Re: Social Media marketing (mainly IG)
Gday team. I have a note I add to when I learn things about SM. I got sick of seeing the same questions so I every time I answered I added to the note and just pasted a generic reply. I’ve been invited to post it here, so here you are!
Here’s my ever-growing, non-specific copy-paste reply, built from my own notes:
- Remember, followers are only for your ego. If you’re a business, Would you rather have a million followers who never buy anything or 1000 followers who purchase everything? (Read Kevin Kelly’s 1000 true fans article). However, if you’re trying to build an account for a brand or human deals, you need as many as possible. I.e. athletes wanting future deals/contracts, actresses wanting future roles, etc
- Dollars are the only score that matters in business. You can sell 1 million $1 items or 1x $1m item, it’s still a million dollars
- How do you get your first ten followers/sales? ASK. Start with your friends/family/personal socials. “Hey, I've started this thing; I'd love for you to follow”. Then contact everyone you've ever known (see cold outreach later, but this is warm haha). THEN ask them all for referrals: “who do you know that could use my help?”
- Re: cold contacting. Have a framework, but don't automate. Solve their problems. Say something personal (” [mutual person] told me to reach out to you” / “I really like your x” /”congratulations on y”). I noticed that [problem]. Fix their problem. Wish them a nice day. Have an offer in your email signature.
- Your profile description should be a hook/tagline / USP and link to your offer. Remember you’re building your house on rented land if you use socials as your client base. Algorithm changes, and they’re gone. Try sending them off socials to your email list, learn storytelling in email marketing (Russell Brunson has good advice), and you will own that contact for life.
- Choose a monetisable niche, find the most successful person in that niche, and put your spin on what they’re doing (ask AI)
- Make GOOD content that is visually appealing, entertaining, and has hooks (you have 3 seconds to get attention), but most importantly, ADDS VALUE to your target market (ask AI for suggestions - you can even ask AI to create a customer avatar for you and then ask it how to make good, relevant IG posts for that avatar)
- Keep your ears and eyes out for trends. Can you throw a trending song over a clip?
- Leverage pop culture. Search for what’s trending daily. Can you combine a movie or album release with your product? For example, if you’re in the auto niche, create an image of a car covered in green slime coinciding with the new Ghostbusters movie
- Document your process. Humans evolved on stories & we love to feel part of something and/or have front-row tickets to the show. For example, If you post art, film yourself making the art, not just the final product; talk about your decisions along the way. Also, it is easy content for you, and you’re just filming something you’re already doing
- Share as many success stories/testimonials as possible, preferably videos. Tag them. Make it easy for users to share themselves.
- In a similar vein, and with permission, share your audience questions in your stories (and tag them)
- Remember the rule of 100 (you need to do something 100x before you get “good” at it). Have you posted 100x and made changes as you’ve observed what worked and what didn’t?
- Every 5th or so post, add a Call To Action
- Always have something to invite people to, such as an event (e.g. Facebook live, face-to-face), a giveaway, a new product, etc. Ensure all your social media banners, popups, CTAs & email sig reflect this (read Book Yourself Solid by Michael Port)
- Use the right hashtags (be discoverable)
- Post at the correct times for your target market (I like 6-630am so when they wake up and scroll, it’s on their feed, their lunch break and a story at 8 pm in the relevant timezone). Steven Bartlett credits the daily 8pm personal thought post the most important part of his success.
- Follow the top 100 people in your niche with between 10k & 100k followers. Engage with them daily. Share their posts. Comment on Their work. As always, be sincere and say something meaningful
- Comment relevant things on important people pages (Gary Vees $1.80 strategy)
- Spend $10 a day on ads of targeted content to targeted people (don’t “but I want to grow organically” - Do you want to be seen or not?). Start ad sets at midnight.
- Russell Brunson recommends ads are only for offers; posts that aren't offers aren’t to be paid for ads—two separate things. Ads get your customers into the funnel and upsell makes you a profit. Say you sell a $10 ebook and a $300 course. Spend $10 per click for the ebook, so it’s a break-even cost, and everyone who buys the upsell is pure profit. Ad budget for testing is the price/profit of ONE upsell, so $300 in this example. Then, reassess, test and adjust. If it’s working, keep it going, but also test variations regardless. Brendan Kane suggests 50-100 variations from memory. Again, get AI to help. Start with your headline. Ask for ten variations. Then your pic. Get ten variations. Then your hook. Get ten variations etc.
- Pay relevant influencers to share your stuff
- Read all of Gary Vees and Brendan Kane’s books
- Do these things 30-50x a day (Gary Vees' advice for new accounts, search for his eight tips 2024 YT vid) across all your platforms for months, maybe years, and you’ll grow. Perhaps someone famous will share your stuff, and you’ll go viral. But remember, each platform has its nuances, so you need to rework content for it (again, use AI - create one piece and ask AI to brainstorm how to recreate for each platform - you can start with the longest form, say a YouTube vid or blog post and ask it how to make tweets or IG posts from it) however you can still “push”. For example, you can post native Facebook content, but you can also put your YouTube vids and IG posts there
- Make at least three posts a day for a month, that's 90 posts, and report back what you learned, what worked and didn’t for everyone else’s benefit. *I've had some pushback on this: A) I don’t make the rules; this seems to be current best practice; B) 1st post = a BTS post of you developing the post, 2nd post = the post, 3rd post = a story summing up your day. OR make all your content in one day and schedule it to post throughout the week. If you don’t have money, you have time; if you have money, outsource it.
- Good luck!
