Regarding the Situation with PinkyPills
2024.04.11 21:55 SpringPopo Regarding the Situation with PinkyPills
Edit: On 5/2/2024, Scott Cawthon has made a response to the situation regarding PinkyPills and his stance on the matter. Edit 2: On 5/2/2024, PinkyPills made a tweet stating that she'll be stepping away from working on FNAF projects for an indefinite period of time.
She has since deleted the tweet, so here is a screenshot of what it said. To go alongside,
Scott has made a quick follow up post about it. Edit 3: On 5/6/2024, PinkyPills made a post on her website stating that she will be addressing the accusations soon. 5/10/2024: She added made a post on her site discussing the Moana and Disney princess situation.
Note: Due to the nature of PinkyPills wiping a lot of her older posts and comments from both Reddit and DeviantArt, there won't be many direct links to those posts. Instead we'll be relying on any archives, screenshots, etc that have been saved over the years.
Why are we making this post: As of recent, information surrounding her has began to resurface which has sparked discussion on if PinkyPills should still be involved with the franchise or not. This post will not discuss whether or not she should or not, we will not be picking a side, instead we'd like for you to come to your own conclusion given the information presented below.
However with many users understandably being misinformed on the matter as there's been a handful of misconceptions spread around, the most popular of which being that she was fired by Scott and that she was the one who created the fanfiction done featuring Barney Miles. We'd like to take a moment and discuss a handful of the examples we've seen being brought up not only here but places like twitter, so people are more aware of what's going on and have more context.
CW/TW: Please be advised this post contains discussion of NSFW imagery involving minors "people/characters under the age of 18", Pedophilia, NSFW fantasies/fetish, Child endangerment, Strong language, and discussion on what is NSFW/sexual artistic freedom in general. If any of this makes you uncomfortable please take heed when reading. Who is PinkyPills: Claudia Schröder, better known by her online alias "PinkyPills", started off as a popular fan artist in the community who would post their own comics and standalone art pieces across various platforms such as Reddit and DeviantArt. Nowadays, you might recognize her most as one of the main freelance artists Scott has contacted to work on various pieces of media for the franchise:
- The covers for Tales from the Pizzaplex 4-8, the cover of Fazbear Frights Graphic Novel Volume #3, and doing all of the illustrations for The Silver Eyes: Graphic Novel.
- The original artwork for created The Official Five Nights at Freddy's Coloring Book, The Official Five Nights at Freddy's How to Draw Book, and most recently a handful of assets that were used in The Character Encyclopedia.
- And most importantly, various assets for Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, Ultimate Custom Night, Freddy in Space 2, Security Breach: Fury's Rage, and Freddy in Space 3: Chica in Space. As well as being one of the designers involved with the creation of the Glamrock animatronics and Vanny in Security Breach.
Tracing Allegations: This is without the doubt the most well known, widely discussed, and debated topic in this thread.
On 12/4/2017, the game "Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator" was released on steam. This was the first game in the series that PinkyPills had released on, working on artwork for the Fruity Maze minigame, and in particular the various advertisements seen in the office gameplay. Upon release, people started discussing the possibility of whether or not the hands and feet of the Lally's Lollies and Fiztime Pop Soda advertisements were traced or not, pointing out similarities with artwork of Mickey Mouse.
On 1/7/2024,
PinkyPills made a response to this on her website talking about how many users were upset about the similarities and understandably concluded that the art must have been traced and thus stolen, as well as stating that it was true that she did draw inspiration from Mickey Mouse to create the designs used in the advertisements. At that time, feeling it would be be amusing to draw a parody of a well-known character, and that the community might appreciate it, mentioning Cuphead's popularity as an example. She then states that when she became aware of the controversary, she immediately contacted Scott and informed him of her mistake. She then received a prompt response, which for contractual reasons, she can not disclose the contents of.
Following this, she talks about how more of her previous work were compared to pre-existing art from other franchises, stock photos, etc. She then explains that instead of commenting on the accusations at the time, she decided to delete all relevant artworks as a consequence.
Lastly, she mentions that while she can not address each individual case where one of the artworks in question resembled another image. She states that the reasons for the parallels were due the usage of stock photos as reference, redrawing characters with vector-based media, using very famous poses, or in the case of what happened with FFPS, the intentional parody of another character.
In her response, PinkyPills mentions that some of her previous work had been speculated to have been traced in the past. The following is a list of a handful of examples most frequently brought up during discussions, make of them as you will.
In particular,
people have pointed this out with the Toy Chica art. As well as the artwork of Balloon Boy and JJ. However, there are two particular instances we will be going over in-depth as they're some of the few instances in which Pinky has directly responded to the claims about particular pieces. Otherwise, she has been known to either ignore such allegations or block those who bring it up.
On 3/16/2017, PinkyPills released the first page of her comic "Daydreaming".
Upon release, people began pointing out the similarities between the final panel and a stock photo of a hand using a calculator. Pinky's responses to these accusations consisted of the following: She ruled off a lot of the comments as people looking for ways to make her look bad either due to jealously, immaturity, or people being a bunch of "drama teenies". She expressed that she wished she could disable comments on the post, finding a lot of the people commenting dumb, and would openly respond to people saying that she blocked them.
She also stated that she felt tracing wasn't anything bad nor did she admit to doing so, and that overlaying an image over another one doesn't prove anything.
If you'd like to read through the majority of her replies from that thread on your own, here is a link to an imgur thread compiling them. On 8/31/2016, PinkyPills posted artwork of Mangle titled "September PNG".
Upon release, a user asked PinkyPills directly if she had traced the endo head. They also decided to overlay the two to make sure it was just a coincidence, and expressed that they weren't sure. PinkyPills replied to this stating that she never traces and that she probably used the image as the reference. The user replied pointing out the usage of the word "probably" to which PinkyPills responded by stating she had worked on the head awhile ago, she didn't need to explain herself for the way she worked, and that the images didn't match. Another user replied disagreeing with her to which she ended the discussion by saying "No they don't. There are several details what obviously DONT match. Anyway I never trace, end of discussion."
If you'd like to read through the majority of her replies from that thread on your own, here is a link to an imgur thread compiling them. The comic series "Daydreaming": On 3/16/2017, PinkyPills released the first page of her comic "Daydreaming". The comic lasted for 6 pages and depicted her version of William staring at an injured girl through a window and fantasizing about her.
This comic would become the subject of contention in the community after people expressed their concerns with the depiction of William in the comic, feeling William's fantasy was sexually fueled. This idea would spread more when previous messages made by PinkyPills on Steam and DeviantArt were uncovered.
With the former being a comment she made on the steam forums in 2015 about how she believed Purple Guy was a pedophile,
while the latter was of an interaction between her and LadyFiszi where she asked if
Fiszi's take on Purple Guy had a boner or not. On 1/6/2024,
She made a response stating her goal at the time was to portray the madness in the mind of a child murderer and offer an explanation for those horrific crimes, and that her intention was never depicting him as having sexual thoughts upon seeing the girl. She follows this up by stating that once she became aware of how unsettling the comic appeared to the community as a result of it being misinterpreted, she deleted it from all of her social media channels. In regards to the Steam Forum post, she states that it has nothing to do with the 2017 comic. As well as mentioning that at the the time, "The Silver Eyes" hadn't been released and that William was only known as the "Purple Guy" with no additional information on what he was like.
She ends the response stating that she regrets not handling the topic with more sensitivity and understanding and that she hopes such incidents will not be repeated.
Comments and artwork about Scott Cawthon: On 8/7/2016, A user by the name of MrMechabre made a post titled "Confess your sins, FNaF Fans". One of the users who commented on that thread was PinkyPills where she confessed to a handful of things such as finding Springtrap cute,
she had played World for more than 100 hours, and that she was collecting bootleg photos of FNaF plushies. However, the two that have sparked discussion in recent time were her admitting to starting frequent discussions about sex in the FNaF Forums on steam, as well as stating that
when she touches herself, she thinks about Scott Cawthon. With many users expressing that they found that behavior, especially in regards to the former, inappropriate and unprofessional.
On 3/16/2024,
PinkyPills posted artwork to her twitter account of Scott Cawthon in the outfit seen in the video "Matpat's Final Theory" by The Game Theorists. A twitter user replied to the tweet with a photo of her old confession comment and with the caption "admirable that you have made a drawing with one hand", PinkyPills then responded asking how one could draw with two hands.
She would on to clarify on both Reddit and Twitter that there was nothing sexual intended with her statements and that people just thought it was a dirty joke because of a comment she made years prior. History with LadyFiszi: For those unaware, LadyFiszi is an artist who formerly worked on the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. She was the first member of the community to be brought on to work on the series officially, starting off with artwork for merchandise and then transitioning to doing stuff for the games and books.
While she is fairly controversial these days for a number of reasons we will not delve into here, that wasn't the case at the time of the original announcement. The announcement was pretty well received, with PinkyPills being one of the few vocal critics regarding Scott's decision.
One of the most frequently posted things from this era is a comic that was posted shortly after that announcement, which would allude to the recent events. The comic depicts PinkyPills talking to her Chica plush about the news of someone being chosen to create official art for the FNaF series.
In the comic, Pinky is depicted as being upset about the news, being shown as jealous, and starts to ramble about how she's gonna prove her worth. While the Chica plush just calls her a snowflake and states that Scott likes the artist's art more than hers. It's been speculated that this comic was a means for her to vent or that she was trying to be self aware and make fun of herself, but it's unknown what the intention of the comic was as PinkyPills has not publicly addressed it since as far as we're aware.
On May 10th, 2016, PinkyPills would leave a comment about LadyFiszi getting hired on DeviantArt.
In her comment, PinkyPills states that she wishes she could say something like congratulations but that the news had made her incredibly jealous and angry. She then states that she always had a lot of mercy in her comments, going on to say LadyFiszi's art isn't very good and her skills are kind of average, stating that she feels LadyFiszi has too much time on details like shading and lighting before stuff like anatomy. Expressing that she finds her skills with human anatomy a horror and that it breaks her heart seeing Scott working with LadyFiszi to see that somebody she feels just spams the internet with his average quality artwork and somehow manages to get that kind of notice. Ending the comment by saying that she hates her for that.
LadyFiszi would reply to this saying that she can understand how PinkyPills feels, as she has felt similar thoughts before with other artworks. She also acknowledges that she struggles with anatomy and that her technique isn't the best, however clarifies that she wasn't chosen for those. She was picked because she was able to capture the atmosphere of the world he created, and that she would only draw animatronics instead of humans. She ends her reply by saying that while PinkyPills is understandably angry, saying these things to her face is pretty rude.
PinkyPills would respond to this by saying she wishes she could say she is sorry or something, but LadyFiszi doesn't deserve the job by her mind. She then states that she knows many people will gate her for this, but she doesn't give a shit. She then says Scott must have gotten really rusty during the years with his artistic skills if he called that atmosphere, and that LadyFiszi only won with quantity because she only has 4 or 5 pieces. PinkyPills would then go on about how she wishes she had more time for fanart, she would have created so much if it would have helped to catch Scott's interest, and that it would have been better than LadyFiszi's stuff. How she would draw everything for him, as much as he wants, and that would pay on top to work for him.
She then goes on to claim that this isn't about the business anymore and is instead about the honor, stating that she has had experience for years as an illustrator and concept artist in the game industry with a lot of high ranked clients, and now "such a silly little thing like" LadyFiszi "who obviously has too much freetime" gets that chance. PinkyPills then remarks that she takes Scott's decision as a personal insult and as an insult for every professional hard working 2D artist and that this is the first time in her life that she is hating on somebody, and that it really comes from her deepest heart.
And here is a link to an imgur album showcasing the messages in full. At some point afterwards, the two would talk once more publicly on reddit. With PinkyPills posting a comment talking about how she really wished she could see what Scott saw in Fiszi's art, stating that she went through her in anger three weeks prior, and could only find a single image she deemed 10/10. LadyFiszi then clarified that Scott had stated he didn't hire her for the professionalism and that he could have hired any professional if he wanted to, but it was because of her animatronics.
PinkyPills then replied back stating that she knew that. Then continuing by mentioning how she could name at least 10 fanartists who she felt did better, more realistic, and more accurate art, and that she wouldn't have gone so mad if someone with professional skills were hired. She then states that she followed Fiszi's work for a long time for entertainment and that while it was better than the average stuff going around, she did not feel she was good enough to work for a AAA-developer and that she would never accept her as a professional, and that every real designer or artist would tell her the same. She admits that's there a lot of jealously, but says not to take it personally. Then goes on to say she figures that Scott saw her attempts to sell her fanart on her store and that he pitied her like "when parents pin the drawings of their children to the fridge."
At some point before 8/7/2016,
PinkyPills apologized to LadyFiszi going off what was said in her confession comment, and the two seemed to have been on better terms afterwards. On 2/27/2023,
A post was made by the moderator team titled "Regarding the Situation with LadyFiszi" which went over a lot of information surrounding LadyFiszi that had come to light. Which was made with the intent of clarifying misinformation that had been spread around, and serving as a way to let users come to their own conclusion of what they thought of the situation. At the end of the post, we had mentioned that LadyFiszi was banned from the subreddit and that there were no plans to unban her at that time.
PinkyPills saw the post and was not happy about that She left a comment expressing that she was baffled that LadyFiszi has been banned, and went on to say in a reply that all of the "issues" surrounding her and LadyFiszi had been spoken through with Scott.
She expressed that she felt the community had been pumping up issues from years prior, and that she stood with Fiszi. Mentioning that despite a troubled past, they are friends now, and that if LadyFiszi was going to be banned, we'd have to ban her too, and that would change nothing expect the community losing two more content creators. She would then leave a few replies with rebuttals against the points made about LadyFiszi's fanfiction.
Afterwards, she deleted all of her comments and replies on the thread.
She'd clarify in a now deleted twitter post that she was asked by Scott to stay out of the topic. Disney pin-ups: On 11/3/2017, PinkyPills would make a post to
/Moana titled "At the beach. (artwork by me)". Which a PinUp depicting her nude in the sand laying on her chest. Upon posting it, several users expressed that they felt that the post was uncomfortable and creepy.
With Pinky responding to a few messages in a joking manner. Two people expressed concern regarding the age of Moana in context to the post, PinkyPills responded by asking if they had a problem with the female body and stating that there wasn't anything sexual in the post. In response to another person stating they felt uncomfortable by the post, PinkyPills responded by saying that PinUps are nothing sexual and that if seeing a simple naked body made them feel uncomfortable then there was something wrong with them. On 11/16/2017, PinkyPills made a follow up to her previous post titled "Moana - The Judges Have Spoken (yes, I gave her pantys :P )". This updated version of the artwork gave her panties and had various characters from the movie such as Tamatoa, Pua, and Maui ogling at her and holding signs rating her.
This was met with similar backlash to the last, with Pinky mainly responding stating that "it was one more reason for me to rub it in your face ;)" On 4/4/2024, A handful of other PinUp pieces done by PinkyPills resurfaced on Twitter consisting of artwork done of various other Disney princesses such as Snow White, Jasmine, and Pocahontas. Like with last time, many users began to express that they feel uncomfortable with them, finding these pieces more explicit due to instances of
a character grabbing their bare breast and one piece being of a character tied up as an example and expressing concern due to the fact several of the characters depicted in these were canonically minors.
Previous Subreddit Bans: On 10/18/2016,
A user by the name of robotchickenking made a post ranting about a kid in their class who wouldn't shut up about Five Nights at Freddy's being bad. In the post, one of the things that was brought up that frustrated them was the kid referring to Sister Location as FNaF 5.
This would lead to many people in the comments of the post discussing and debating on if Sister Location was Five Nights at Freddy's 5 or not, with two of those people being PinkyPills and myself. We had gotten into a discussion where I was of the stance that Sister Location was part of the main series and not a spin off, while PinkyPills disagreed. This eventually devolved into a heated argument where I felt Pinky was being condescending and not providing any actual counter arguments to my points and PinkyPills felt I was annoying her for no reason over something that she felt was an obvious fact.
For clarification, this was long before I became a moderator, so I was just a normal user at the time. At some point later on, one of the moderators, TheFrodo, would join the discussion and briefly have their own exchange with PinkyPills. This would lead to her being temporarily banned for Rule 2 from the subreddit for a couple days.
Here are some screenshots of a few of her now deleted comments that were managed to be archived. On 1/26/2018, After reevaluation from the moderator team at the time, PinkyPills was banned indefinitely due to the mod team finding several instances of "tracing" and heavy referencing that was deemed too 1 to 1 with the original source material being found in her previous artwork. On top of issues stemmed from her attitude towards those who would bring those instances up or give her any criticism,
with her even trying to egg on and rile up those she'd get into discussions with. Either a month or two later, PinkyPills sent an appeal to the subreddit modmail and was unbanned.
PinkyPills and her interactions with a FNaF DeviantArt group: On 11/2/2017, PinkyPills would try and submit an art piece titled "Let That Hair Down" to a Five Nights at Freddy's DeviantArt group. The art piece would be rejected as it was deemed too suggestive, with PinkyPills being told to read the rules.
PinkyPills would reply simply saying "Party poopers!" to which a moderator would respond that's not the type of response to give someone who isn't comfortable with the sexualization of characters, especially in a place where young minors can access it.
From here on out, the following is the testimony of one of the moderators from that group who wishes to remain anonymous. We ask that you do not attempt to reach out to, stalk, or harass this person or anyone involved with that DeviantArt group. They are trying to move on from this situation and we were granted permission to share their story. So regardless of where you stand on the matter, we ask that you leave them be.
Following the events that occurred, their interactions with PinkyPills reportedly became sexual and that she had started encouraging her friends to sexually harass them. They went on to mention that she had also repeatedly tried to continue submitting risqué or sexual artwork even after their initial confrontation, which would consistently get rejected as there was a clear rule against adult oriented content and they had even redirected artists to another group that did allow it. It was said PinkyPills was told countless times that there was a large amount of kids in their group.
Unfortunately, we were unable to get any screenshots of the events mentioned in the testimony as they no longer use DeviantArt and it's been said that PinkyPills had deleted them long ago. However screenshots of the initial confrontation do,
which we link here in a imgur album. Miscellaneous: The "About artistic freedom, pornography and breasts." post: On 8/15/2016, PinkyPills made a now deleted post to the subreddit titled "About artistic freedom, pornography and breasts." where she discussed her frustrations with the fact her artwork had been removed twice despite having the NSFW tag during the second attempt. She states by her mind it wouldn't need a tag in the first place, but that even with one it was still taken down which she can't do much about. She then says she doesn't accept that and would like to hear a statement by the moderators as she feels she drew Toy Chica "EXACTLY" the way she looks in the games, slightly lifting up her bib. PinkyPills follows this up by stating it was a shame that a fellow artist by the name of Bizounette couldn't show their drawings because the moderators didn't know what porn was.
A user then replied expressing that they felt PinkyPills was adding boobs to a character that didn't have them and making them act provocatively, which they felt didn't had much a place with a series about a haunted kid's pizzeria. PinkyPills replied saying we didn't know what was under her bib, asking what the problem was if a child saw breasts, and then commenting that she felt the user's models didn't have much to do with FNaF either.
What followed was a heated discussion between the two about whether or not the user was letting their personal preferences set limits on what someone can do, if PinUps were sexual by nature or not, and what the difference between the user's personal work and the Toy Chica art were. It eventually ended with the two telling each other to read through the thread again and that they thought the other was avoiding a lot of what was said.
At some point, another user posts their own comment disagreeing with several points in the post. In particular that PinkyPills drew Toy Chica exactly like her in-game counterpart and that the original post wouldn't need a tag. They also state the whole point of a pin-up is to be suggestive, so her post would be fine as long as it's tagged. PinkyPills then replies arguing that pin-ups aren't suggestive, bringing up the origin of the term, and that porn and pin ups are two different things.
From here on out, both users from before would reply and share their disagreements with the points PinkyPills was making, with the main recurring instance being them clarifying that they weren't saying boobs = porn but saying that giving them to a character who doesn't have them and making it the focus of the piece was questionable. Pinky would argue against this by mentioning that real women with breast that size existed and that other FNaF characters had them too, so it wasn't an issue and that they simply had an issue with breast.
Eventually, both discussions would end with the following. The first user would admit to being a sarcastic butt to her because they felt she was full of herself, while PinkyPills would make several replies consisting of "I'm not talking to you anymore" and one where she stated she doesn't respect them anymore.
Then the second user would reply to PinkyPills' last comment of that chain stating that they found her hypocritical and questions how anyone could respect her given she hates everyone who proves her wrong or has a different opinion than her. PinkyPills would then reply admitting she was drunk, that she loved them, and that people like them challenging her each day makes her reflect on her actions and habits. As well as remember why she she chose that job and "loves drawing titties".
Here is an imgur album containing the now deleted post and both comment chains, for those who want to know what happened in more detail. As for why the Toy Chica post was removed in the first place. From my understanding after talking with a former moderator, the reason was the following:
The reason why it was removed was because it was intentionally suggestive/provocative. They never had an issue with "female shapes and breasts" nor did they think it was pornographic, if they did then every Ballora post would have been removed. It was just clearly a suggestive pin-up where she had given Toy Chica human-shaped breasts to be more sexually explicit. I was also told that had Toy Chica looked exactly like she did in-game like PinkyPills claimed, it probably would have been left up.
Argument over the Artist Flair: For context, early on in the history of the subreddit, there were special text flairs given out by the moderators for people who frequently posted artwork, fangames, stories, etc to the subreddit. From our understanding, they were removed due to them causing strife and people who didn't have them would get upset.
On 8/31/2016, PinkyPills posted artwork of Mangle titled "September PNG". One of the moderators at the time, Squidnow_Amiibo, left a comment wondering if people reporting the post for Rule 4 were just messing around. PinkyPills then responded by saying she hoped they drowned in reports.
What followed was the two going back and forth, Squidnow asking why, and PinkyPills stating it's because she was upset her "Titty Chica" post was removed and that she didn't like them because they didn't want to give her an artists flair. Squidnow then brought up that they had remembered complimenting her art and asked if she could provide a link to where they said she didn't deserve one. Pinky then rebutted with "and I want 1 Million €." and that they were both out of luck, and to look up the reddit history themselves.
Squidnow pointed out that they were unable to find anything and felt Pinky hated them for no reason. Pinky follows this up by saying that she tells them not to put words in my mouth as she said she didn't like them, not that she hated them. She then recounts her perspective of what happened stating that when she was new there, Squidnow told her not to ask for a flair and that she would get it when she was "ready". PinkyPills felt this was pretty rude, given it would take her 6 weeks to get one in the end.
Squidnow replied stating that they felt she being quite hypocritical by saying "don't put words in my mouth", because she told people they said "you didn't deserve one" when they said "you will get one when you're ready", and that any other mod would've said what they said given she had just started posting there.
Here is an imgur album containing the full comment chain. Missing Children Incident Artwork: On 8/30/2022,
PinkyPills posted artwork on her twitter of the Missing Children with the caption "#InternationalDayoftheDisappeared2022" For those unaware, The International Day of the Disappeared is a day created to draw attention to the fate of those who have gone missing through conflict, migration and natural disasters, and to show solidarity towards all who have been affected. The International Day of the Disappeared is held on August 30th of each year.
Upon the release of the post, many users would react finding the usage of the hashtag very insensitive and disrespectful. PinkyPills would quickly delete the tweet and repost it 37 minutes later with a new caption saying "thanks for bringing the previous unsensitive hashtag to my attention, I am so sorry!-"
However, many users still expressed criticism towards the post. In particular, arguing that Pinky should have held off longer before reposting it, so it was no longer on the 30th.
Conclusion: All in all, we'd like for you all to come to your own conclusion on the matter. This thread will be the only place in which discussion of the matter will be allowed at this current time, however please remember to keep the guidelines in mind when posting a comment. Make sure to be respectful and civil to people even if you strongly disagree with them on a matter.
We also ask that you do not reach out to, stalk, or harass
ANYONE mentioned in this post regardless of how you may feel about the matter. We're only mentioning everything here for the sake of transparency.
Which also for transparency, we'd like to mention that PinkyPills is currently banned from the subreddit and there are no plans to unban her at this time.
We'd also like to clarify that we do not have any contact with Scott, so we have no clue if an official response to the situation will be given by either him or PinkyPills. That is entirely their decision and given previous instances, might not occur. This post was made with the primary intent of informing people of the situation and letting them come to their own conclusion.

| Well after begging, borrowing, dealing and trading, I’ve done all I can do. Nothing left but gold stickers which we can’t even trade, but to hope that in the next 2 days somehow magically the remaining 7 stickers I need will somehow present themselves to me. Oh I’m sure I’ll have the opportunity to spend $$$$ to have the chance for 1 or 2 but it’s just so frustrating these stickers aren’t more readily available! submitted by SeveralAd6322 to MonopolyGoTrading [link] [comments] |

2022 Season Review
Regular Season: 4th - 32 Pts, 9W-8L-5D (https://www.nwslsoccer.com/standings)
Challenge Cup: 1st (West) - 14 Pts, 4W-0L-2D
Reign’s 2023 season began with what could be called muted-but-high expectations. The team had just come off winning their third NWSL shield in 2022, tying North Carolina for the most shields in league history. However, despite that triumph the team had bowed out in their first playoff match yet again. This extended their playoff loss streak to 7 consecutive games, a streak that began way back in 2015 . Thus, even as the team managed to hold on to nearly all of their players from the previous season (losing only 3 in the offseason ) and added USWNT player Emily Sonnett, it was widely assumed that although the Reign had a very high chance of making the playoffs, they would be unlikely to take home a second consecutive shield.
The season began with a hot streak for the Reign. After a loss to the Washington Spirit on matchday 1, the Reign would go on to win 4 of their next 5 games, placing them temporarily atop the standings. However, in the middle of that hot streak, the Reign lost one of their best players (and arguably one of the world’s best players) in Rose Lavelle, who was injured while on international duty. Lavelle’s injury was initially mentioned as a mild one, but she would not see the field again for the Reign until August 27th. Having lost one of their best players, the team was forced to showcase its depth.
Leading up to the World Cup break, they managed a record of 3W-4L-2D, enough to keep them top-three in the standings going into the break. Alongside that, heavily-rotated teams ground out results in the Challenge Cup, allowing Reign to top an extremely competitive West Group for the second consecutive year and clinch the top seed heading into the cup’s knockout rounds. However, these performances were overshadowed by two major announcements. Megan Rapinoe, a Reign original and icon of the game, announced that she would be retiring at the end of the year. In addition to that, it was announced that Spirit owner Michele Kang would be buying OL Féminin, creating a conflict of interest and throwing the Reign into ownership limbo for the rest of the season.
As the season progressed following the conclusion of the World Cup, there were more issues to be tackled. A poor run of form saw the Reign drop 6th place in the table, and their knockout game woes continued as Racing Louisville sent them home in the Challenge Cup semifinal and extending their knockouts/playoffs streak to 8 consecutive losses. Reign also lost starting goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce to Manchester United, receiving a world record fee (for a goalkeeper) of around $160,000 in return. But like any Harvey-led Reign team, they weren’t going to go out without a fight.
On a decision day when Reign could have placed anywhere from 3rd to 9th place, they took care of business against Chicago and clinched a home playoff game. Then, with a tense 1-0 win against Angel City, the Reign’s playoff win curse finally came to an end. And following another 1-0 win against San Diego, they found themselves in the championship match for the first time in nearly a decade. A crazy final saw Megan Rapinoe subbed off early due to injury and chaos abundant as Gotham FC managed to hold on for a 2-1 win over the Reign. And with that unfortunate loss, an icon bid her farewell to the soccer pitch.
Megan Rapinoe’s retirement was a joyful and painful journey for the Reign. As one of the Reign originals and a longtime star of PNW soccer going all the way back to her college days at the University of Portland, Pinoe represented the growth of the game from spending time with Magic Jack to winning multiple world cups and hitting The Pose. Pinoe is also one of the most out and proud players in women’s soccer with her wife and fellow Seattle sports legend Sue Bird. Pinoe’s career came to a tearful end when she tore her Achilles in the championship match against Gotham, but she was still smiling and cracking jokes. Although Pinoe’s last years with the team were slowed by injury, she could still score some special goals for the Reign. Build the Statue.
OFFSEASON
Players Out
Megan Rapinoe, 38, FW, Retired - Pinoe’s retirement after a championship Achilles injury ends a career in the Northwest that makes her a Seattle sports icon alongside the city’s greats - even though she did spend some time playing soccer in Portland.
Marley Canales, 26, MF, Waived
Angelina, 24, MF, Signed with Orlando as a free agent. Angelina made just 10 regular season starts for the Reign over 3 years with her time disrupted by serious injury. She’s off to Orlando de Janeiro to play with other Brazilian greats!
Rose Lavelle, 28, MF, Signed with Gotham FC as a free agent. Another departing player whose time at the Reign was seriously disrupted by injury, Lavelle is regarded as one of the world’s most skilled creative players when she can get on the field. We’ll learn about what the Reign have done to replace her later on!
Emily Sonnett, 30, MF/DF, Signed with Gotham FC as a free agent. Sonnett, who’s spent time at different places in defense, was used more heavily at defensive midfield toward the end of her time with the Reign, and has since also seen time there for the USWNT. Who knows how she’ll be used next for the Bats!
Alyssa Malonson, 24, DF, Picked by Bay FC in the Expansion Draft
Elyse Bennett, 24, FW, Picked by Utah Royals in the Expansion Draft (later traded to San Diego Wave). Bennett, who I have a personal soft spot for after watching her play for years at Wazzu, had flashes of speed and technicality for the Reign, when used mostly as a sub. She might see more playing time with the Royals.
Sam Hiatt, 26, DF, Traded to Gotham FC in exchange for Julia Lester and $20,000. Hiatt was unfortunately the odd player out as the Reign play with two center backs and Hiatt was the third option behind Cook and Barnes, two stalwarts who eat up tons of minutes. Hopefully Hiatt might see more time on the pitch with the Bats but if she doesn’t, I could see her moving again.
Players In
Julia Lester, 26 years old, Defender - obtained in a three-team trade involving Racing and Gotham. Lester seems to be good at starting attacks, carrying the ball, and blocking attackers’ path. She’s set to back up starting center backs Alana Cook and Lu Barnes.
Ji So-Yun, 33 years old, Attacking Midfielder - obtained in a transfer from Suwon FC in South Korea. Ji had good attacking statistics in her last stint with Chelsea, but her level is yet to be seen after a year-long detour back to her home country. Her highlight reel is full of clever touches and creative passes, bringing a possible different dimension to the Reign attack.
Angharad James, 29 years old, MidfieldeFullback - arrived in a transfer from Tottenham Hotspur FC in the Women’s Super League. James will likely play alongside or compete for minutes with Quinn in the defensive midfield, or potentially spell McClernon at left fullback.
Lily Woodham, 23 years old, MidfieldeDefender - Completing the PNW Welsh Mafia, Lily arrives in a transfer from FA WSL 2 side Reading FC - the second tier of English women’s soccer. At 23, Lily has 10 caps with the Welsh women’s national team and is seen as having plenty of potential.
McKenzie Weinert, 26 years old, Forward. Returning home to the PNW after playing her college soccer at Oregon State and the University of Washington, Weinert played 17 matches in the W-League in Australia and New Zealand for Melbourne Victory. She had some decent production while there, including strong defensive stats for a forward, something the Reign definitely seem to value.
Sam Meza, 22 year old Midfielder. After playing her college ball at the University of North Carolina, Meza was drafted by the Reign when they traded up to #16 to swoop in and grab her. Head Coach Laura Harvey seemed surprised that Meza dropped to this point in the draft, and she was recently signed to a first-year contract. Meza seems to be in a position to learn from the Reign’s dual veteran #10 midfielders Fishlock and Ji.
ROSTER
Preseason Roster
Predicted Preferred Gameday XIs:
Formation: 4-2-3-1 OR 4-2-2-2
-------------------Huitema-------------------
--Balcer---------------------------Latsko--
------------Ji--------------Fishlock----------
--------------------Quinn--------------------
-McClernon----Barnes-----Cook-----Huerta-
-------------------Dickey--------------------
Alternative:
--------Huitema—------Balcer-----------
-------------Ji----------Fishlock----------
-----------Quinn------James--------------
-McClernon----Barnes-----Cook-----Huerta-
-------------------Dickey--------------------
The Reign played with a lineup much like the Alternative one listed here in a preseason match against the University of Washington, with Olivia Van Der Jagt slotting in for Angharad James, King and Latsko up top, and Shae Holmes and Ryanne Brown slotting in in defense for Barnes and Cook. This box midfield formation, much like the one that has previously been used by the North Carolina Courage, might get the best combination of the Reign’s top players on the field at the same time.
Likely Top Bench/Subs, players not already mentioned:
Olivia Van Der Jagt - Midfielder : Olivia is a good depth option in the defensive midfield and is dominant in the air.
Ryanne Brown - Defender: Brown can slot in for either fullback spot and has strong defensive stats.
Shae Holmes - Defender: Holmes will likely back up Cook and Barnes in the event their injury struggles progress into the beginning of the regular season.
Returning Players:
Claudia Dickey - Goalkeeper: Dickey will return as part of the NWSL’s best defense in 2023. She has continuity with returning players in front of her all the way through the defensive midfield. Even though Phallon Tullis-Joyce moved on to Manchester United, the Reign defense didn’t miss a beat when Dickey (and Laurel Ivory) filled in between the sticks.
Sofia Huerta - Defender: Huerta is one of the NWSL’s best crossers of the ball and her service into Balcer and Huitema is one of the most important parts of the Reign’s offensive strategy. Huerta’s expected assists, shot-creating actions per 90, and attempted long passes are all towards the top of the league.
Phoebe McClernon - Defender: On the other side of the defense, McClernon was hampered by long-term injury in 2022 and 2023, playing just 19 regular-season matches across the two years. Like Huerta, McClernon will be trusted to provide service for the Reign’s tall forwards, and spread the field when opposing defenses would like to be focusing on defending the possible box midfield or dual 10s of Fishlock and Ji.
The Vets
Lu Barnes - Defender: One of the two Reign Originals still with the team, Barnes will be holding down central defense with Alana Cook this season. Lu has played over 200 matches for the Reign, and nearly 250 in her club career - an iconic journey that will set the standard for longevity in women’s club football for years to come.
Jess Fishlock: Another Reign Original, Fishlock is one of the NWSL’s most passionate players and has the creativity to match. She also has a penchant for scoring long-range bangers and hitting the chicken dance. Fishlock loves to get involved in the attack and takes lots of shots - apparently she was heavily involved in making combinations with Ji through the middle in the Reign’s most recent preseason match.
Alana Cook - Defender: Cook won /NWSL’s tackle of the year in 2023 for a draw-saving DOGSO against North Carolina and Kerolin. She returns as a very solid defender who will look to spray passes to start Reign attacks.
Bethany Balcer - Forward: It seems like just yesterday Boats was taking the league by storm after arriving from NAIA Spring Arbor University. After winning Rookie of the Year in 2019, she’s followed that award up with seasons of 9, 7, and 6 goals in 2021, 22, and 23. Another Reign player dominant in the air, Balcer may be teaming up with Jordan Huitema this season in a two-forward look to attack Huerta and McClernon crosses.
Something to Prove
Tziarra King - Forward: Z went without a goal or assist in 660 minutes in 2023, which didn’t help with the Reign’s sometimes stagnant attack. Like other Reign attackers, Z is very defensively involved, but needs to show greater attacking output this season.
2023 PREVIEW
Realistic Best Case Scenario
Winning the championship from a top-4 position. The Reign defense is very solid - and as we all know, defense wins championships. With a few well-placed goals, the Reign can head towards the top of the table in the regular season, earn a home game at Lumen Field, and make another run as they did in 2023. In this best-case scenario, the Reign’s aerial attack succeeds at hitting the heads of Balcer and Huitema, Ji and Fishlock confuse opposing defenses, and this season’s international play doesn’t overly disrupt the Reign’s flow.
Realistic Worst Case Scenario
Missing out on the playoffs. While the Reign defense is stout, the offense has doubts. Not scoring enough goals could be a big problem, especially with the wealth of attacking talent brought into the NWSL recently, even our all-star defense may not be enough. Without well-timed goals and enough shutouts, in this scenario the Reign have a middling season marked by a wealth of boring games. 0-0 draws and 1-0 losses would be in abundance in this worst-case scenario. Plus, a few injuries on international duty might hamper the Reign’s creative players if they’re overused - Fishlock loves playing to the max for club and country and missed out on a few games in 2023. If Huerta and McClernon’s service is stopped, this scenario becomes more likely.
Realistic Most Probable Scenario
A low playoff position and early exit. Many predictions around the league have the Reign hanging around the bottom of the playoffs - and it’s understandable why. The Reign are seen as having a great defense and an offense that’s not quite enough. In this scenario, the Reign eke out enough 1-0 wins to make the playoffs but can’t make it past superior playoff teams who’ve spent big on offensive talent.
What to watch this season
There will be three main things to watch this season for the Reign: the vets, the youth, and the formation.
The vets is a pretty obvious one. The Reign’s midfield and defense is stacked with experienced veterans that will be leading the team through the season. Despite losing Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnett, and Megan Rapinoe, the Reign still have originals Jess Fishlock and Lou Barnes as leading voices, as well as experienced players like Sofia Huerta and recent international addition Ji. Look for this veteran core to help steer the Reign through the ups and downs of a long 2024 season.
The youth, however, may be the more interesting one to watch. There are a number of talented young players on the Reign’s roster, all of whom will have something to prove. Three main players to watch in this group will be Jordyn Huitema (22), Sam Meza (22), and Luany (21). Huitema is coming off her first full season with the Reign, where she was joint top scorer in all competitions with 7 goals. With 4 additional league games, she will be looking to reach double-digits this season. Meza joining the team is likely a play for the future. The notably draft-averse Laura Harvey traded up to get Meza after she dropped into the second round, so clearly the team sees her has a solid bet for the future. Lastly, Luany, the youngest player on the team, is currently on loan with Madrid CFF in Spain. She is playing quite well there, ranking 19th in attack contribution, 9th in chances created, and 5th in assists according to Opta Analyst. Her loan will end in June, and she could play an important role in the team as they manage their minutes in the summer.
Lastly, the formation could be something to watch as well. Laura Harvey has been well known the past few years to rely heavily on a 4-3-3. However, the Reign currently only have 5 forwards listed on the roster, so they may opt to change formations. A 4-2-2-2 or 5-3-2 type formation could work well for the Reign, as it would allow Sofia Huerta to continue pushing high up the wing where she could serve it to aerial threats Huitema and Balcer inside the 18. A formation similar to this was seen in the Reign’s preseason match in Costa Rica, and it could be something the Reign add to their arsenal this season.

2024.02.22 06:46 facepalmgamer World Generation Help
I am trying to make a top-down, base-building resource management game. Similar to that of factorio. I am not sure which method is better for world generation, wave collapse or Perlin noise. I have some pros and cons for both
Perlin noise pros - global -can layer for different biomes and heights and weather
cons: -Tiling is difficult -merging biomes is odd since they are different layers
WCF pros: - easy to tile - quick to load dynamically
WCF cons: - not global
I have kinda of eliminated WCF since it's not global, and by that I mean if a player loads in with a chosen seed and explores, they might not get the same world every time. If you go down then left then up and someone else uses the same seed and goes up right then down. Those chunks we collapse differently
I have tried following Sabastian Lague world generation tutorial for a 3d world (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbpMiKiSKm8&list=PLFt_AvWsXl0eBW2EiBtl_sxmDtSgZBxB3&index=1). This for the most part works I just have 2 main issues when converting it to a 2d tilemap:
- Changing the scale completely randomizes the world (it zoomed at the start, but after he added the ability to add offsets actually working the zoom broke in ep.10) Dont really need this, but its useful for making a map for the player if i could just use the noise at a different scale - this is more of an I dont know the correct way to do this, but unloading unnecessary chunks. I don't know if I am supposed to just use 1 tilemap and populate it as you walk over or if I should unload chunks. I literally dont know what is best.
my requirements for what I am trying to do: - same world for a given seed no matter what - load different parts of the world independently - world wrap (going left or right should bring you back around...eventually) - large worlds

2023.12.29 20:13 Underwhere_Overthere 101 Local Multiplayer Games/Updates Released in 2023 for PlayStation 4/5
Related Posts
See below for some complementary posts I’ve made relating to the topic of local multiplayer games.
The list below is a collection of games from “Upcoming Local Multiplayer Games” lists I’ve done that have since released.
Introduction
This list will document 101+
local multiplayer games that have released for the PS4/PS5 in 2023. Most of these games are quickly forgotten about soon after their release – if they’re thought about at all – so this is a good chance to give some of these smaller titles some much needed exposure. But this year did have a higher ratio of AAA games released than usual, with Baldur's Gate III not just being the highest rated local multiplayer game this year, but the highest rated game of 2023 overall alongside The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
To be clear, these are games that are new to the PS4/PS5 ecosystem - this includes ports from other platforms that released on the PS4/PS5 ecosystem for the first time in 2023, like Squad 51 vs. The Flying Saucers (first released on Steam in 2022), including games from well before the 2010s, like Quake II Remastered. This also includes games that released on the PS4/PS5 before 2023 that were updated to add local multiplayer support for the first time, but the only game on the list that meets this criteria is Infernax (released in 2022 on all modern platforms, and updated in 2023 to add local co-op support.
This includes 101 of the better ones released in on PS4/PS5 in 2023, but there were likely around 300 on these platforms. I will make mention of some of the games not included in the main list in one of the later sections.
Online Multiplayer and Share Play
This is a local multiplayer-focused list, but I will still list if a game features online play as well – to put it another way, every game on this list features local multiplayer, but only some games on this list feature online multiplayer. Of course, you can always use
Share Play to play local multiplayer games online on PS4/PS5 (and Parsec or Steam Remote Play on PC), and what’s great is only the host needs to own a copy of the game for it to work. That said, this feature only allows up to 60-minute sessions, so you need to restart a session if you plan on playing longer than that. All users must also be PlayStation Plus subscribers. There are some other restrictions that may apply to playing certain games via Share Play, so I recommend reading the link I shared if you’re interested in more details.
Games Available on PS5 but Not PS4
- Pizza Possum
- Baldur's Gate III
- Just Dance 2024
- Ride 5
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Spells & Secrets
- Indoor Kickball
- Asterix & Obelix Slap Them All! 2
- This Means Warp
- Pinball M
- Supfly Deliver Simulator
- #Wish Travel, Super Puzzle Dreams
- ARK: Survival Ascended
- Seeker: My Shadow
- Waltz of the Wizard
Local Multiplayer Games Released for Other Platforms in 2023
I made another more minimalist list separate from this one that lists the new games/updates with local multiplayer that is platform-agnostic (meaning, the first arrival of a new local multiplayer title, whether that be to PC or any of the consoles). Posting the full version would take up too much space, so I’m just going to post the title of the brand new games below, and if you want to see the post with the store page links and pictures, you can find it below.
Some notable local multiplayer games that released in 2023 but not for PS4/PS5 include:
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
- Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
- Wargroove 2
- Cassette Beasts
- Bread & Fred
- 30XX
- Horizon Chase 2
- For the King II
- Vampire Survivors
DLC. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass - Waves 4-6
And more in the link above.
Other Contenders Released in 2023 for PS4/PS5
There were a large number of contenders for the list, and while I think I mostly captured everything truly great, there were still a considerable number of titles that could’ve qualified. This post was made over the course of a month and a half so I would probably make some small changes if I were to rework it from scratch, knowing everything I do now. As a result, I decided to include some of the other contenders that could qualify for this list – these games can really be thought of as interchangeable with the bottom 20 or so games on the list for the most part, but I have to pump the brakes at some point, and 101 is a good stopping point. Even so, I wanted to at least acknowledge these games with their titles and an accompanying picture.

Yearly Releases
Games that are released on a yearly basis were omitted to make room for other games on the list. It wouldn’t really be worth putting in the time to include a more detailed breakdown on these games when everyone knows what they are. Even so, some of these games have received exceptional review scores and may still be worth looking into if you haven’t played one of them in awhile.
- 1. The Jackbox Party Pack 10

Other Games
It's worth mentioning that a number of retro
Arcade Archives and
ACA Neo Geo games were released in 2023, just like every year. These are typically 1980s-1990s games from 2D genres with boatloads of local multiplayer games already (beat 'em ups, shoot 'em ups, run & guns, 2D platformers, etc.), so I didn't cover them in lieu of other games, but they're still worth mentioning. Typing "Arcade Archives" and "ACA Neo Geo" into the search bar in the PlayStation Store is a quick way to find several hundred local multiplayer games, although of course not all of them have it.
Games with Limited Local Multiplayer
- DC's Justice League: Cosmic Chaos - Small Co-op Mode
- A Robot Named Fight - Co-op Support Role
- Figment 2: Creed Valley - Co-op Support Role
- The Smurfs 2: The Prisoner of the Green Stone - Co-op Support Role
- Mars Base - Co-op Support Role
- The Punchuin - Small PvP Mode
- KarmaZoo - Small PvP Mode
Games with Updated Player Counts/New DLC/Major Updates
Updated Player Counts - Heavenly Bodies - Previously Released in 2021 with 2 Player Local Co-op was Updated to 4 Players - $19.99
New DLC/Major Updates There were likely more local multiplayer games with new DLC/major updates, but here are some major ones I know about:
- Rain World - Downpour - $14.99
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - Dimension Shellshock - $7.99
- Streets of Rage 4 - Mr. X Nightmare - $7.99
- Salt and Sacrifice - 2.0 Update - Free
PlayStation VR2 Games with Local Multiplayer
Since these games require a separate piece of expensive hardware that a lot of people don't have, I've decided to give them their own separate section rather than adding them to the main list. These games require a PlayStation VR2 and feature asymmetrical local co-op.

Notes About the List
- 2 of the 7 games contain local co-op in VISCO Collection - Andro Dunos and Captain Tomaday - both shoot 'em ups.
- Sonic Superstars' shared-screen local co-op has been criticized for its camera issues.
- The Jackbox Party Pack 10 and Catan: Console Edition require players to use their smartphones as controllers.
Games with 5+ Players on Other Platforms
PC, Xbox One/Series X, and Switch allow up to at least 8 traditional controllers on the same console, whereas the PS4/PS5 are capped at 4. This means that some games that support 5-8 players on other platforms are cut off at 4 on the PS4/PS5. That said, the PS4/PS5 still have a few games that support 5-8 local players, either through hotseat mode (pass one controller around) or through playlink (using smartphones as controllers).
I’m going to list the games on the list that support 5-8 local players on other platforms for people who own may own multiple platforms and want to play these games with more than 4 players.
- Super Bomberman R 2 – 8 Players
- Quake II Remastered – 8 Players
- OddBallers – 6 Players
- KarmaZoo – 8 Players (PvP only - co-op is online only)

2023.12.29 20:10 Underwhere_Overthere 101 Local Multiplayer Games/Updates Released in 2023 for PlayStation 4/5

Posting the full version would take up too much space, so I'm just going to link it and list some of the more notable ones that released this year.
- Martian Panic
- Battle Stations Blockade
- Railbreak
- SkullPirates
- Party Friends
- Cry Babies Magic Tears: The Big Game
- Beat ‘em Up Archives
- Gourmet Warriors (QUByte Classics)

- 30 Sports Games in 1
- Fastest on the Buzzer
- Animal Kart Racer 2
Yearly Releases
Games that are released on a yearly basis were omitted to make room for other games on the list. It wouldn’t really be worth putting in the time to include a more detailed breakdown on these games when everyone knows what they are. Even so, some of these games have received exceptional review scores and may still be worth looking into if you haven’t played one of them in awhile.

Games with Updated Player Counts/New DLC/Major Updates
Updated Player Counts - Heavenly Bodies - Previously Released in 2021 with 2 Player Local Co-op was Updated to 4 Players - $19.99

- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - Dimension Shellshock - $7.99
- Streets of Rage 4 - Mr. X Nightmare - $7.99

This also includes games that released on the PS4/PS5 before 2023 that were updated to add local multiplayer support for the first time, but the only game on the list that meets this criteria is Infernax (released in 2022 on all modern platforms, and updated in 2023 to add local co-op support).

Posting the full version would take up too much space, so I'm just going to link it and list some of the more notable ones that released this year.
- Glitch Busters: Stuck On You
- Inspector Gadget: MAD Time Party
- Martian Panic
- Battle Stations Blockade
- Railbreak
- SkullPirates
- Party Friends
- Cry Babies Magic Tears: The Big Game
- Beat ‘em Up Archives

- Super Brawl Rush
- Sven - Completey Screwed
- #Wish Travel, Super Puzzles Dream
- 30 Sports Games in 1
- Fastest on the Buzzer
- Animal Kart Racer 2
I may add some more later.
- 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- 3. EA Sports WRC
- 4. Let's Sing 2024
- 5. Just Dance 2024
- 6. MLB The Show 24

- 14. Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame 6

2023.12.29 03:29 Underwhere_Overthere Overview of 50 Local Multiplayer Games for PlayStation 4/5
Related Post
Details About the List
Keep in mind these are not my top 50
local multiplayer games for the PlayStation 4/5 – some were selected simply because I found the concept unique like Biped, others because they didn’t get enough attention like Wand Wars, while others are all time favorites like Salt and Sanctuary.
With
Type, you will see either Co-op, PvP, or both. Co-op is for story/campaign modes – games with a beginning an end. PvP is player versus player and refers to versus/competitive multiplayer modes. Think of Co-op as games like Rayman Legends, where you journey and work together, and PvP as Mortal Kombat 11, where you square off and try to beat the other player.
While this list is specifically tailored for the PlayStation 4/5, I’m still going to make mention if there’s a better version of a certain game on another platform, so those reading who might own a Switch, Xbox One, or competent laptop know the best platform to get the game for should they choose to purchase one of them.
This list is in no particular order other than having the PvP games at the top.
1. Crawl - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Top Down Dungeon Crawling Action
- Type: PvP
- Description: Crawl proves there are great game concepts yet to be explored even today. Crawl is a free-for-all game that operates as a 3v1 game depending on who is playing as the human at the time - one player controls the human, while the other three control monsters. Whomever kills the human then switches roles. You collect gold the more damage you do to a player, which can in turn be used to buy weapons and other items. The goal is to become the human, level up to at least level 10, and then defeat the boss to win. You will likely die as the human a few times before reaching this point, so leveling up your monsters before floors is also important. The demonic narration that plays at the start of each match is also wonderfully voice acted, as is the macabre atmosphere in general.
2. Duck Game - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Arena Fighter
- Type: PvP
- Description: The Switch and Steam version have a map editor not featured in the other versions. The Steam version also allows up to 8 local players. This game is similar to TowerFall, but over time I ended up liking it even better. On top of local multiplayer, It has online play, and even local multiplayer online play (so you can bring two or three players on the same system online to play with other players). Duck Game has a ton of weapons and maps and is very fast paced. It's more focused on the action compared to the platforming.
3. Ultimate Chicken Horse - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Competitive 2D Platformer
- Type: PvP
- Description: Ultimate Chicken Horse has you placing hazards between you and the goal to thwart other players' efforts to make it to the end. Each player must quickly choose a hazard at the beginning of each session - this in itself is a rush because you miss out if another player gets to it first. You want to "build" the level in a way that is best suited to your abilities while making it difficult for the other players. On top of the 15+ maps, you can make your own. On top of local multiplayer, It has online play, and even local multiplayer online play (so you can bring two or three players on the same system online to play with other players).
4. Wand Wars - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Indie Fantasy Sports Game
- Type: PvP
- Description: The Switch and Steam versions offer additional maps, modes, characters, items, and the campaign can be played in local co-op. Wand Wars is fast paced magic dodgeball on broomsticks. To further explain, you have a magic ball you hit back and forth between players. The ball becomes bigger and faster the more it's hit. If it hits you without you grabbing it, you die. That's the default mode - the other ones differ a bit, but this is probably the one you'll spend most of your time playing. There are items, stage hazards, and a secondary move to spice up the gameplay.
5. Nidhogg 2 - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: Indie Fighting Game
- Type: PvP
- Description: Nidhogg 1 is also recommended. Nidhogg 2 is different from your standard 2D Fighter. Your characters are purely aesthetic and have no unique abilities of their own - it's about what weapon they are wielding at the time. Once you kill a player, you must try to run to the end of your side of the level. The other player will then try to kill you and then run to the end of their side of the level. There's a constant tug of war at play. There's also online multiplayer.
6. Screencheat - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: First Person Shooter
- Type: PvP
- Description: The Switch version is an updated version of the game with better graphics and more flair. Also, the PlayStation 4 version only allows 4 human players whereas the Xbox One and Steam have 8. In Screencheat all players are invisible. You must watch other players' screens to know where they are in the map. The maps are color coded to make it easier. There's a wide variety of crazy weapons, and you are given your pick of the litter at the start of every map. Bots are available to fill in the gaps, and there's also online multiplayer.
7. Knight Squad 2 - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4 players
- Genre: Top-Down Arena Fighter
- Type: PvP
- Description* The Switch, Xbox One, and Steam versions of the game allow up to 8 local players.* Knight Squad 2 is a top-down two button party game inspired by the likes of Bomberman, though players' movements aren't confined to a grid. Regardless of which mode you select, players all spawn on a single screen arena and must defeat other players to win, or kill other players to achieve some other goal. Unlike, say, a traditional fighting game, Knight Squad 2 doesn’t have a particularly high skill ceiling, so it’s a great game to introduce to friends, who can catch up to your level of skill relatively quickly. Despite it being a relatively simple game with short matches (~3-10 minutes), the sheer number of modes makes it easy to play in longer sessions. The ability to bring local friends online on the same console is a great feature, and bots can fill in the gaps if you prefer to play locally (up to 8).
8. Boomerang Fu - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Top-Down Arena Fighter
- Type: PvP
- Description: The Switch, Xbox One, and Steam versions of the game allow up to 6 local players. Boomerang Fu is an accessible party game that has players battling to the death with their choice of anthropomorphic fruit or vegetable. It brings both hilarity and pure chaos, as boomerangs fly around the stage and decapitate these poor creatures. Players can throw or swing their boomerang, dodge, and sometimes perform other actions depending on what items they’ve acquired. The game features bot support, plenty of stages, and a good number of items to keep matches interesting, although its number of modes is lacking a bit (just three).
9. Cannon Brawl - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2 players
- Genre: Real-Time Strategy Game/Tower Defense Game
- Type: PvP
- Description: Cannon Brawl’s action takes place on a single shared-screen, with players’ castles being positioned on opposite ends of each other. Players will be able to choose five units and a commander, with their own unique abilities, into battles. Units all serve a different purpose but can probably be defined by three different categories: offensive, defensive, and resource-gathering-based. Once the action begins, each player controls a blimp in real-time that is used to purchase units from the castle and place them into positions on the battlefield, with the ability to control units directly: positioning shields or firing projectiles. Territory control is important for being able to place more units and mine more gold (the only resource used in this game). The game is relatively easy to learn for the genre, and one of the best 1v1 local PvP games on consoles that isn’t some variation of a fighter.
10. Speedrunners - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: 2D Competitive Platformer
- Type: PvP
- Description: In Speedrunners, players control superheroes who platform around a stage in an effort to keep up with the other players. You’ll need to wall jump, grapple, and slide at the right times to keep your momentum. Over time, the screen will shrink, along with your wiggle room for error. The game features many maps, items, and playable characters to keep things interesting.
11. Art of Balance - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Competitive Puzzle Game
- Type: PvP
- Description:* The Wii, Wii U, and Switch versions of the game offer motion controls (but I think the game is fine without them.)* Art of Balance has you placing and trying to balance various shapes using an on-screen cursor to drag and drop. The main competitive mode will have you racing to balance all the shapes faster than your opponent(s). Players have to carefully balance speed with accuracy, as even one shape toppling over means having to restart from the beginning. Note that a run-through of the single player mode will need to be done to unlock all the stages.
12. GigaBash - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: Indie Fighting Game
- Type: PvP
- Description: GigaBash has players duking it out across cities all over the world with giant monsters and robots. It’s an arena-based fighting game where positioning matters, and players can gain an edge by using the environment to their advantage or picking up items. It still makes for a great party game, but knowing the moves and combos of certain characters gives you an advantage over other players. In addition to the standard battle modes, there is a mini-game mode as well as cooperative waves-of-enemies mode. There are unlockable characters, two of which require some completion in the single player campaign mode, which is only two hours total (and only about 45 minutes to unlock said characters.
13. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: Individual Sports Game
- Type: PvP
- Description: Tony Hawk’s multiplayer mode allows you skate on all 17 maps from the original two games, as well as skate on player made courses. Just like the originals, there are various game modes to choose from, including the ability to just free-skate, which is helpful for players who are just trying to learn the game. Matches can get really competitive if both players have learned how to successfully string combos together. Note that maps will first need to be unlocked in the single player mode.
14. Monopoly Plus - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: Digital Board Game
- Type: PvP
- Description: Monopoly Plus is a great adaptation of the board game – the game moves along a lot faster without having to manually do the administrative side yourself, and the board has a lot of pizzazz to it that makes it more exciting. It’s a great gateway game for people who are typically adverse to video games since they already know how the game works, and the auctioning and relaxed, turn-based nature of the game lends a social aspect to the game.
15. Unspottable - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Hide-and-Seek Game
- Type: PvP
- Description: The Switch, Steam, and Xbox One versions allow up to 8 local players. Unspottable tasks players with blending in with the AI by mimicking their movement. Each stage has around 30 characters, and your goal is to identify the human characters by identifying any oddities with their character. If you punch a character, you leave yourself vulnerable and unable to move for a few seconds, so you can’t go attacking everyone all willy nilly. Every stage has some kind of differentiating quality to it – the prison stage casts a spotlight that will you who is a human character and who is an AI, for example.
16. Rabbids: Party of Legends - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Party Game
- Type: Party Game
- Description: The Switch version does feature motion controls, but they don’t really enhance the game in a meaningful way. Rabbids: Party of Legends features 50 mini-games that play similarly to the ones in Mario Party – in fact, most of the mini-games remind me of the ones found in Mario Party, but they usually have some type of twist. For example, in the Shy Guy Says-like one, the signs held up are directional inputs, and they will try to throw you off by putting the down directional sign above the head of the host. This game is structured like a campaign and even has an end credits sequence for completing the four acts, but – outside of a few 2v2 team games – you are playing against each other, not cooperating. The mini-games are generally pretty fun and can be replayed at your leisure through a separate mode. There is no board map like in Mario Party, just to be clear.
17. Plunder Panic - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Arena Fighter
- Type: PvP
- Description: The Switch and Xbox One versions of the game allow up to 8 local players, while the Steam version allows up to 12 local players. Plunder Panic plays similarly to Killer Queen Black – there are up to 6 players on each team(empty spots can be filled in with bots), with one captain per team. There are four different victory conditions: killing the opposing team’s captain, hitting the enemy ship with three cannonballs, acquiring a certain amount of gold (which can also be stolen or used to purchase weapons), or rowing the rowboat filled with explosives to the enemy ship. There is a push-pull with the opposing team for each victory condition, so neglecting one means you might be granting the enemy team an easy victory. With Killer Queen Black now delisted from digital storefronts, Plunder Panic now offers up a fairly unique experience.
18. Riptide GP: Renegade - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Arcade Racing Game
- Type: PvP
- Description: Riptide GP: Renegade has players racing on jet skis across nine racetracks. You’ll be able to select from a number of different vehicles with their own attributes, as well as your character. You can perform moves when going off a ramp to build up your gauge, which will give you a boost when used. Each racetrack is visually interesting and distinct – from a ruined and flooded city to a carnival. Waves are bumpy and splashy, so it manages to both look and feel the part of a water-based racing game.
19. The Jackbox Party Pack (series) (Playlink) - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: Party Game
- Type: PvP
- Description: Each game in The Jackbox Party Pack series features five separate games (aside from the Starter Pack which only features three). Instead of using traditional controllers, players use their smartphones or another electronic device to join in, which allows more people to join (up to 100 local players in some games) and allows game that use concealed information, locally. For example, in Blather Mouth one player will know a word and will have give out hints via their smartphone, which transmit to the TV screen, while the other players try to guess the word/get closer to the answer on their smartphones. Note that some games require as many as 4 players, but most are usually less than that.
20. Wargroove - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Turn-Based Strategy Game
- Type: Co-op & PvP
- Description: Wargroove models its turn-based tile-based gameplay off Advance Wars, but its medieval fantasy setting is more akin to Fire Emblem. The game features an entirely separate (but smaller) co-op campaign, one-off co-op maps, and versus maps for players to engage in. Players can even create their own maps to duke it out in. For those unfamiliar with this type of game, the gameplay revolves around positioning units, capturing towers, and choosing which new units to deploy in turn-based land, sea, and air gameplay. One nice perk is that you can play this game locally with four people with one controller if you'd like by passing the controller around when it's whomever's turn, but you can also have a 1:1 controller:person ratio too if you so choose.
- Co-op Qualities: While the main campaign and puzzle levels are single player only, there is still a ton of content here to last for dozens of hours if you're only interested in the multiplayer qualities. You can even download new maps online created by other players so you always have a fresh batch of new content to return to.
21. Streets of Rage 4 - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Beat ‘em Up
- Type: Co-op & PvP
- Description: Releasing 16 years after Streets of Rage 3, the fourth game brings back classic characters and the classic beat ‘em up action that made the series popular way back in the day. Your character has a number of moves at their disposal, but they can also pick up weapons, which keeps things interesting. The visual and rumble feedback lends a sense of impact to each strike. The game is ~3 hours, but there is a lot to go back for: higher rankings, a boss rush mode, a PvP mode, higher difficulties, and many different characters to unlock and play as.
- Co-op Qualities: There is virtually no tug of war with the camera. If one player dies, the other players can fight on.
22. Swap Quest - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: Action RPG/Puzzle Game
- Type: Co-op
- Description: Swap Quest is a unique blend of RPG elements and tile swapping gameplay. The levels are all divided into a grid of square blocks with paths on them that you’ll use to change the direction of your character. The screen is always scrolling, so timeliness is important. There are enemies, bosses, and a world map. You’ll also amass jewels and try to find a collectible item on your way to the end of each level. There are also a few single screen mini games that help keep the gameplay fresh.
- Co-op Qualities: The screen scrolls automatically, so there’s no screen hogging here. If one player dies, the other one is still able to assist in death with swapping tiles.
23. Never Alone – Arctic Collection - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: 2D Puzzle Platformer
- Type: Co-op
- Description: Never Alone centers around an Inupiat girl and a fox and tells a story based on Inupiat folktales. The game assigns a unique role to each of the two characters. Only the fox can wall jump and bring visibility to spirits (who act as platforms), while the girl can push crates and throw magical beads. There are a few set-piece moments I don’t see in a lot of 2D platformers that really adds to the feeling of being on a long journey far away from home. The music is also appropriately ambient and reflects the desolate wintery environments.
- Co-op Qualities: This game is actually designed around the co-op experience. That said, it still works in single player since you can switch between characters on the fly.
24. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: 2D Action Platformer
- Type: Co-op
- Description: Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 emulates the style of an NES Castlevania game, specifically Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, which featured multiple playable characters. Each character has their own base weapon plus a subweapon with a usage limit. You’ll find subweapons throughout the level by attacking the lanterns. What’s also fun is finding out which character works best against a boss. Every character can attack and kill a boss – there is no specific moveset required, so it’s more about how you want to approach it. You can swap characters on the fly with the shoulder buttons, so as long as the other player isn’t using one of them.
- Co-op Qualities: You can use each other as platforms to reach otherwise inaccessible platforms. Being able to play as characters that are functionally different opens up new strategies. In one instance, my friend defended me from flying Medusa heads as the swordsman while I picked off higher up enemies with the sniper. There are many instances like this throughout the game.
25. Hyper Light Drifter - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: Top Down Action Adventure RPG
- Type: Co-op
- Description: Hyper Light Drifter has some really tight combat on top of its beautiful world and extensive lore. It's cryptic in both its story and gameplay elements, but it's not hard to figure out if given some time. I like the range of upgrades and infusion of long range and close range combat. Some games like to spread them out to create classes, but I like the variety in combat encounters it presents. If you can't understand the story, I'd recommend watching this video after you've beaten the game, or now if you don't care about spoilers and just want to hear a cool story told.
- Co-op Qualities: Most of the action takes place on screens that are locked in place as you fight enemies. This works perfectly with the local co-op. Outside of these rooms, the screen does move around, but it is manageable.
26. Unsighted - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: Top-Down Action Adventure Game
- Type: Co-op
- Description: Unsighted takes inspiration from Hyper Light Drifter, Zelda, and Dark Souls. Its unique hook is the constant ticking clock that persists throughout the duration of the game, which countdowns the deaths of all NPCs over time, with varying expiration times between characters. A certain item can extend their expiration date, but choosing who to use it on is a difficult decision, as you’ll almost certainly lose a few NPCs who would otherwise sell you valuables or provide you with quests. This feature can be toggled off if it’s not your forte, but its an excellent marriage of gameplay and story if you choose to engage with it. The core gameplay loop is one most similar to Zelda – five MacGuffins spread across five dungeons with gameplay consisting of combat, puzzles, and exploration.
- Co-op Qualities: The characters move pretty fast, so it's easier than other top-down action games of this ilk for the characters to get separated. Player 2 is always teleported to Player 1 if they veer too far away from each other. Outside of that, the co-op is great, with item pick-ups being duplicated for the other player, Player 2 can equip their own gear, and the action doesn't stop even if one player dies.
27. Guacamelee 1 & 2 - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Metroidvania
- Type: Co-op
- Description: This is a Mexican themed Metroidvania. And while there are other indie local co-op Metroidvanias, they are usually limited to 2 players, while Guacamelee is 4. I really hadn't played a game with a Mexican theme before, and while it didn't excite me too much at first, it really grew on me. The games allow you to switch between the living world and the dead world. There's also extensive post-game content that more than doubles the life-span of the game.
- Co-op Qualities: The games are truly excellent and I'd say they're more fun in co-op than single player just by the nature of being able to play with someone else. Combat sequences are fine in co-op, and even many platforming sections are too. However, as the game goes on, the platforming becomes more complex, and it becomes easier for players to simply off themselves and let one player tackle the platforming sections. That said, some of these complex platforming sections are scroll locked to a fixed screen, as are many combat sequences, which poses less problems. For comparison's sake, I'd say the Guacamelee games work better in local co-op than the new New Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country, and Rayman games due to the scroll locked sections and emphasis on combat.
28. Salt and Sanctuary - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: Metroidvania
- Type: Co-op & PvP
- Description: Salt and Sanctuary takes heavy inspiration from the Souls series, but also has quite a bit more platforming and many Metroidvania elements (new abilities that allow you to access previously inaccessible areas). This is a vast game with about 25+ hours worth of content. There are many different classes and weapons, so replayability is also high. The game is ominious with its story, but the lore is very interesting and worth reading up on. Actually enabling co-op is also ominious, so I recommend watching this video to find out how to do it.
- Co-op Qualities: The game is slower paced compared to something like Guacamelee so screen hogging isn’t a huge issue here. The whole game is playable in local co-op outside the initial tutorial. You can also enable PvP by consuming an item.
29. Horizon Chase Turbo - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Racing
- Type: Co-op & PvP
- Description: This is racing game with a 1990s arcade aesthetic. There are 119 race tracks, and the adventure can be played entirely in local co-op. The race tracks take place all over the world, from Africa to Europe to South America, etc. Even after beating the game, you can still go back and try to get a Platinum medal on every race. The soundtrack is also great, and I've given it a number of plays on Spotify. I'm listening to it now, now that I've linked it actually.
- Co-op Qualities: This game is split screen, unlike all the other games on this list which are shared screen. The game counts the highest placed player in a race. So if Player 1 comes in third and Player 2 comes in first, it will count Player 2's achievement over Player 1.
30. Flat Heroes - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: 2D Platformer
- Type: Co-op & PvP
- Description: This isn't a traditional 2D platformer - it's more like a Survival 2D Platformer. You platform around the screen trying to survive rather than to make it to a goal. This encourages you to try different paths if something isn't working. I like that even for a fast paced platformer like this, inexperienced players can still join in without weighing down the other players, since one player can carry the team to the next level if there's a big skill disparity, and the fact that it's always on a single screen makes it so inexperienced players can't really slow down the others. And like its inspiration, the instant respawns make it easy to keep going. The boss battles are very to the point and fit in with the simple but difficult style of the game. So it makes for a game that's easy to introduce to just about anyone. There's also a versus mode.
- Co-op Qualities: As mentioned in the write-up, this is probably the best 2D platformer for local co-op since it all operates on one screen. No getting too far ahead and leaving others behind like in side scrollers such as new New Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country, and Rayman games. It's not my favorite co-op 2D platformer, but it works the best in local multiplayer because of the single screen nature of the game.
31. Death Road to Canada - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 4
- Genre: Randomly Generated Road Trip Simulator
- Type: Co-op
- Description: The easiest way to describe Death Road to Canada is Oregon Trail + real time action sequences interspersed in the gameplay. You make choices and grow character traits via randomly generated story elements in the form of menus. You are forced to make choices - do you want to go to a gas station or a grocery store? Do you want to recruit a new member to your party and spend resources on them, or forego them and have a more difficult time in action sequences? The real time gameplay focuses on killing zombies, buying and selling things at markets, and scavenging for supplies. There are a lot of deeper elements to the game, and I'd highly recommend the Wiki for this game.
- Co-op Qualities: You start with two characters and can have up to four. Any character not used by a player is controlled by the AI. It's better to have more players than AI because they make smarter choices and are less likely to lose characters if they're familiar with video games. However, entering and exiting doors and also being on opposite sides of the screen can result in some deaths. So in some ways the co-op works better than the single player, and in other ways it's worse.
32. Biped - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: 3D Puzzle Adventure
- Type: Co-op
- Description: In Biped each player controls the legs of a cutesy robot using the analog sticks. Outside of the menus, there are no buttons employed. This makes it easier for inexperienced gamers to still play and have a good time because they'll always have their thumbs resting in the same spot and won't get confused by having to constantly swap buttons. That said, I played with a friend who is an experienced gamer, and we both had a great time with it. The gameplay generally revolves around using the legs of your robots to overcome timing, precious, and endurance based obstacles in coordination with your partner. The game consistently delivers fresh new puzzles for the two players to solve together.
- Co-op Qualities: This game is actually designed around the co-op experience. That said, it still works in single player since you can switch between characters on the fly.
33. Pode - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: 3D Puzzle Platformer
- Type: Co-op
- Description: Pode is built entirely around the co-op experience, similar to Degrees of Separation, PHOGS!, and A Way Out. One player controls a fallen star, the other controls a rock. They each have different abilities that solve puzzles when used in conjunction with one another. The visuals are a definite standout in this game. The game doesn't require quick actions, so it's easy to play with an inexperienced player. You're also able to switch characters at any time, making it so much easier if another player can't figure their end of the puzzle.
- Co-op Qualities: This game is actually designed around the co-op experience. That said, it still works in single player since you can switch between characters on the fly.
34. PHOGS - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: 3D Puzzle Adventure Game
- Type: Co-op
- Description: PHOGS requires a level of coordination and cooperation between players on a higher level than almost any other game out there – that’s because the two playable characters are literally conjoined in a way identical to Catdog (a short-lived Nickelodeon for those unaware). Players can independently stretch, bark, and grab on to objects with their mouth, but you’ll walk as one being with your partner. The gameplay mostly revolves around solving puzzles in cooperation with your partner: executing on the solution is equally as difficult as figuring out the solution conceptionally, so make sure to play this game with a patient partner who will actively cooperate with you. The game is divided up into dog-appropriate level themes: Food, Play, and Sleep. The art-style is both whimsical and fantastical. Players can dress their dog up with optionally acquired golden bones scattered across levels.
- Co-op Qualities: The game is built around the co-op experience (although the game can be played in single player with the two sides of the controller each controlling one dog), and as mentioned before, it will require an extreme level of coordination and cooperation between players.
35. It Takes Two - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2 players
- Genre: 3D Puzzle Platformer
- Type: Co-op & PvP
- Description: It Takes Two tells the story of a couple with a struggling relationship, who are turned into dolls by their daughter’s actions and must work together to return to their human form. The game is a puzzle platformer at its core, though it occasionally weaves in other genres' play-styles as well. The game is pretty easy for any experienced gamer, as death carries little penalty and most of the puzzles are pretty simple, though it seems like the game was designed this way to appeal to players with a less experienced partner. The “collectibles” in the game are actually mini-games you find throughout your adventures, which make for some fun PvP action and can be replayed through a menu. These mini-games are similar in length and depth to a Mario Party mini-game, though they are contextualized with the world around them.
- Co-op Qualities: This game is actually designed around the co-op experience and cannot be played in single player.
36. Unravel Two - Picture
- Trailer
- No. of Local Players: 2
- Genre: 2D Cooperative Platformer
- Type: Co-op
- Description: Unravel Two sees two yarn things adventuring across the world – the gameplay is 2D, but the environments are 3D and it really helps to bring the world to life. Using the thread of yarn that danglers from their body, they can swing an anchor each other to navigate the environment. The whole game is built around environmental puzzle solving and cooperation with your partner. It really feels like a grand adventure larger than life world, with the majority of it experienced through gameplay.
- Co-op Qualities: This game is actually designed around the co-op experience, though it can still be played in single player.

Some of them may have IAP's but EXCLUSIVELY to unlock the full game or remove ads (no gacha or energy/gambling mechanics, "diamonds", pay-to-win, or any cash-grab bullshits of sort).
I was inspired to make this post by a comment a few days ago mentioning that mobile has only trash games.
2-D Castlevanina: Symphony of the Night (2d Metroidvania) One of the legendary games that inspired the term "metroidvania
Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition (2d Metroidvania)

RPGs: Grimvalor (2.5D hack and slash medieval fantasy platform/RPG)
Paign (3D RPG which an interesting story)
Chrono Trigger (best JRPG in history, originally on SNES. This mobile port (from the Nintendo DS version) is excellent and I haven't had a single issue with touch controls, bugs, or glitches, despite what the Google Play reviews say)
Monster Hunter Stories (3D turn based RPG)
The Bard's Tale (3D action RPG adventure)
Oceanhorn (3D Zelda-like action RPG adventure)
Sparklite (3D Zelda-like action RPG)
Doom & Destiny (classic humorous RPG)

DISTRAINT 2 (story-driven puzzle)
Fractal Space (3D first person puzzle) this game has an insanely good story and great gameplay
Monument Valley (
1&
2) (3D isometric puzzle)
Limbo (2D puzzle/platformer)
To The Moon (story-driven puzzle RPG) this is not for everyone, but I loved the story and the music
Finding Paradise Sequel of To the Moon
Shooters Lone Wolf (17+) A Sniper Story Amazing first-person shooter with a gripping narrative.
Visual Novels & Interactive Death Palette VN game with a morally ambiguous story
Terasene The Light of her Life VN game with mild survival elements
The Walking Dead Telltale Games All the games are not on mobile but a majority of them are
Life is Strange VN with puzzle elements and with incredible narrative
Life is Strage: Before the Storm Prequel of Life is Strage (play this second)
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc VN game with puzzle/deduction elements. There are 2 sequels and 1 spin off game as well. As with most Japanese premium games, the mobile version is costlier than the PC version.
Ace Attorney Trilogy VN game with puzzle/deduction elements. There are many spin off games as well. As with most Japanese premium games, the mobile version is costlier than the PC version.
Now, since these games are paid games (and expensive compared to their steam variants), I recommend using AppSales.
AppSales is an app that will make you save some money by notifying you when specific apps (or games) in the Play Store go on sale. Just add the games you wish to buy to the AppSales' watchlist and you'll get notified when the price gets cut.
There are a lot of amazing games on mobile (not all are PC ports!) but it requires some effort in finding them and requires a wallet to buy them.
EDIT: Updated the list with visual novels EDIT2: Updated the list with more platformer games

2023.12.10 18:31 alakuu Tough choices and probably a mountain of poor decisions 3020 vs 3030 comparison.
I'm looking to do light milling of aluminum. I know it seems there's two perspectives of anything under a 3k isn't going to do it realistically, or going slow and setting feeds correctly is possible. Basically pocket cuts. Possibly some heavier material removal but I'm very much not time constrained. I don't need even probably 10thousandths worth of accuracy, and I have the capabilities to do bead blasting if surface quality turns out to be incredibly questionable.
I'm not able to swing 3k+ for a machine sadly. So while I get that perspective I think clarity on what I'm looking to do would be helpful.
I'm wanting to make top and bottom plates with features that use depth. I honestly have just debating using sendcutsend to do must of what I'd want but I really do need to be able to have some 3d features instead of purely 2d cuts.
I already have the commonly used makita router as part of a rarely used router table. So my thought was to take either
WM 3020 Or the
3030 AnoleX Or something I haven't considered a huge amount on would be
aliexpress chinese mystery box Use an adaptor to mount the makita router on it and slowly cut the features I need.
I'm cutting at max under 10 inches by 5 inches. Meaning the extra space from the 3030 feels useless.
The key differences I'm seeing is the WM has ball screws instead of lead screws (both are probably close to the bottom of the barrel in quality). But the WM loses linear rails on the bed for linear rods.
What would you consider better? Is it really just a better option to eat the opportunity cost and save up for a better machine? I honestly don't need something big, and desktop style CNC seems to be a niche in of itself, either being unbelievably expensive or something not commonly diy'ed.
Note! I have a very old broken down bridgeport milling machine, and a not in service lathe. Plasma cutting, mig welder from Lincoln that I'm terrible at, along with proper steel cutting bandsaw with liquid cooling. I might be able to actually DIY something together, just worried about the loss of time spent and without the bridgeport running I'm not really able to do things within accuracy. If there's a stellar desktop design out there that I've missed let me know!
